Oh thanks everyone for the votes of confidence in it. We normally sit 4 around a table, so I think we can squeeze 6 around when needed (legs and all). And for $150 for real wood I wouldn't have to worry about the table with little ones because I can always refinish it. I think I may go for it! Maybe with some TLC it will look like a really expensive set. :)

Congratulations on your beautiful new table. Well done. My dining room is 12 x 13.5. I have a Baker double pedestal table similar to yours that is 46" x 88" with both leaves in. It has another one somewhere around here. Anyway in addition to the table there are 6 chairs around it and on one wall a 26" deep at the deepest point bowfront sideboard with one chair on each side of it. It's a little tight but works fine. I think it will fit in your room just fine especially since you don't plan to have a sideboard with it in the same space. If you are concerned about the chairs you could do the taller upholstered chairs at each end and then smaller wood chairs on the sides. I think it looks best with six chairs and storing the other two for larger dinner parties somewhere else. Have fun!

I think the white one may be worth it. The other looks like it needs reupholstering and has pressed cane (ask for pics of the *back* of the back). The white one may be woven cane (easy to fix if there is a hole). It also has more interesting arms. I would not put either one outside. I used to have one like that (with matching armchair that I was too poor to have springs redone). I couldn't sell them - antique dealer said they were 70's French Provincial even though I knew they were a good 50 yrs older than that knowing the lady (house) my parents bought them from. The wood was dyed, not stained. I ended up giving them to Salvation Army when DD was born and we needed to move (her current) antique bedroom set to the room where we had the caned set. The back of the couch was not comfy, and moved too much. It *was* pretty, though.

Yes, the french doors swing into the room though we've locked one side down and only have one open for the dog to go around in circles. Your concern about the two cabinets and the placement is well placed. Tomorrow I will have manpower to help move a few things around. The bar is currently in the dining area and will go back to where it is in the picture. The china cabinet is currently where the two floral chairs are with the tall table. I really like it there because it is filled with my blue and white collectibles that you see when you come in the door. I hope to plot this out better on one of those arrange a room things tomorrow. Les if I understand your idea, you could still see four chairs in there but placed differently? Plus the daybed? Interesting idea, BTW, on the daybed. I'm going to ponder that. Like you, I didn't want to close off the room. I was thinking of the chairs (slightly angled) but facing each other almost as if there were a pair of matching loveseats coming out from the fireplace. And I was thinking a small round table not a large one. Oh, and as for sitting in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine when it is just the two of us, we do it in this room, That's what makes the other room so tough - we don't use it at all except for company. mclarke yes, I agree, we need to see the chairs first. dekr8 Oh my, I LOVE those chairs and would $200 a pop for them in a heartbeat.
