Do you like taupes? I just did my family room (also high ceilings, white trim and alot of light) in a beautiful mid-tone taupe color. It is deep enough that gives good contrast but not so dark that it screams out at you when you walk in the room. It also goes well with just about any furniture colors, I have light couches with red accents, but I have also seen it with dark furniture and it looks great. I get MANY compliments on it and 2 other people are now going to use the same paint color. Let me know if you are interested--I can try to post a pic, but you know how online pics never really give a good representation.

Kitka - I'm open to any colors that will work with the golden tan colors that I've already selected (and paid for - ouch!). I'd love to see the taupe that you've used in your family room if it's not too much trouble for you to post a pic.

Pics can be deceiving, I know, but I plan on painting some sample boards so I can see the colors IRL before committing. Wish I had done that in the foyer before painting the entire room and having to repaint!

I have no clue what colors are what, but I wanted to say how happy I am that things are moving along! Once you get a piece or two of furniture in maybe someone that can do paint virtuals will do so for you.
Painting sample boards are a good plan too since virtuals only give you an idea of what might work. Though they do help eliminate the amount of colors you'll need to make sample boards of.

Thanks, justgotabme! I'm so ready for this remodel to be over. DH is doing most of it himself and he's so good at it, but it's definitely taking a long time b/c (1) we work full time, and (2) he's a bit of a, well, anal, perfectionist, anti-multitasking, non-delegating kind of guy!

Now he's saying he might like a deep color like chocolate! I've never gone this dark with a color and I'm really not sure a dark brown will work with dark brown floors, brown leather couches, and a dark pool table, no matter how much trim.
Please - anyone have suggestions for a nice, warm color that will work with Believable Buff and Antique White? This is a room with 17' ceilings and I only want to paint it once!

I don't know much a/b SW colors -- but you should try Farrow & Ball. Seriously. Especially if you want to go dark. Especially if you are going to paint only once. It's worth it.

I don't see deep chocolate, maybe because that tends to read as contemporary and I don't see your furnishing as contemporary. Your room channels more of a Ralph Lauren Desert Hills kinda vibe (warm leather, taupe/grey linen, jute rugs, etc...)

What about BM Nantucket Gray? It's a grayed green that is very neutral. I am color-phobic and I love it.

Well, I ended up going with Camelback for the adjoining living/dining room (DH wanted a color darker than Whole Wheat).

Linda - I looked at the BM Nantucket Gray while I was at Sherwin Williams, and it is a very pretty color. It's not going to be deep enough though, since it's about the same depth of color we're using in the adjoining room and I'm looking for a bit more contrast. I'm going to keep that in mind for my bathroom remodel though.

Bella - I'm afraid to look at F&B because I know I'll want it! I'm actually going to use this paint to refinish some furniture pieces (including my hutch) and need to order some samples. DH was against using it for the walls when I mentioned it before because of the cost but mostly b/c the closest supplier is over an hour away. We're not so good at estimating the amount of paint we need, and I usually end up having to run out at the last minute to pick up a gallon so we can finish a room! I will look at my F&B color chart to check out the colors you suggested though. Thank you!

I hear ya juddgirl2! Last time I was trying to paint DD's room the week before my guests came (for a vacation), we ran out of paint so my sis/her DH had to sleep in a 1/2 painted room (LOL) --- DH told me to go have it custom matched w/ SW so that we can finish it but ...are you kidding me? :-) no way.

At least you are closer than us. We are like 2-3 hours away. But I like to go to F&B for paint because it gives me a chance to visit all my favorite stores in LA.

I'm really addicted to their paint. I can't even think of using anything else (except for Christopher peacock, maybe) :-)

Juddgirl2: I tried taking pictures of my walls (taupe), but the tone didn't show well at all. I think it would be better to take a look at the color chip. The color is Benj Moore "Pismo Dunes" AC-32. It's a mid-tone, not deep dark, and not a light color, shows nice contrast w/white & definitely noticeable.

Good Luck! I have such a hard time picking colors. I am so glad the main rooms are done. We did this color in my dining room, living room, Kitchen, & foyer. I have a very open floor plan and it is working out great. Have fun...let us know what color you finally go with.

Have you already decided on a color? I was going to suggest SW Burlap before I got to point where you mentioned it as a color that you were considering. It's brown with a touch of green/olive. My home has an open floor plan and I just recently painted my kit. & liv. room walls SW Ecru.I painted the kitchen ceiling SW Muslin,and the liv. room ceiling SW Netsuke. These colors are on the same strip as the Harmonic Tan and Burlap you mentioned. I have a sunroom/dining room adjacent to my living room and I had planned to paint it SW Burlap, (wonbyherwits garden room was my inspiration-linked below), but at the last minute I changed my mind to BM Pike's Peak Gray because I decided I wanted to add a pop of blue/gray to my color scheme.

kden - thanks so much for posting the picture of Burlap. I really like it! I did get samples of Burlap and Arifact and think that one of those will work great with the Camelback, but I'll try them on some drywall scraps in the room for a week or so before deciding.

I also really like Ecru on my sample board and am considering it for a bedroom that has black furnishings. Do you have any pictures of it that you can post?

Netsuke on living room ceiling and muslin on kitchen ceiling, and dover white trim. Excuse the bare walls, I haven't accessorized since painting.

I also love your chandelier. Not that I'm trying to be a copycat, but can I ask where it's from? I'm desperately trying to find a chandelier for my dining room, and have a few on the top of my list, but so far have been hesitant to commit. We have the same type of country furnishings, and it's hard to find something rustic yet elegant.

Ecru is my favorite SW color. I'm using it all through my home except in the bedrooms. According to my local SW store, 'Blonde' is their most popular and best selling color. It's pretty close to Ecru, but more yellow tone. Ecru gives off a little hint of tan, yellow, or sage green depending on the angles of light hitting it. I just LOVE it!
