how long to get passport?

I've never applied for a passport before, so I went to the State Department's website to find out how to do it. It said it usually takes about 6 weeks, unless you pay extra for expedited service, which would take about 2 weeks. And it said that it takes longer during the summer travel season. Then when I googled, I saw several sites that advertised passports in 24 hours. I'd like to get one in within 4 weeks. Do y'all think the expedited service would get me one that quickly, this time of year?

Hi irislover, we needed to renew our passports for our vacation to Scotland and England this summer. For just the renewal it took close to 8 weeks to get them back in the mail. Please be careful about those 24 hour services. I have never heard of anyone getting a new passport in 24 hours...even in an emergency. Make sure you have filled out the forms completely and correctly. Your photo has to be taken by an authorized photo shop. Our friend thought he could get away with just taking his digital camera and taking the photos. His passport application was rejected because he did that. And yes, all the families' photos are horrible! I haven't had a good photo yet! NancyLouise

I'll do it the regular way, and hope paying for expedited service and overnight delivery both ways will get it here faster than 8 weeks.

I just renewed ours a week ago. Found the forms online, filled them out and printed them, had a new pic taken at the UPS store (only $4.99) and enclosed the form, the old passport, and a check for $110 in separate, padded envelopes. They have not arrived yet, but I expect them soon. BTW, you can RENEW even if they are expired by no more than 5 years.

Vent about passports

We are traveling to China in the near future & DH & I got our passports last year no prob because we had expired passports that we could give instead of birth certificates. Our DD only had an original BC that I didn't want to give up. (Never know!!!) So, we said we'd wait on hers until we had a cert. copy of her BC. Well, we rec'd that back in Oct/Nov. & still have yet to get her passport! Have an appt to do so on Monday & get this taken care of! I've heard that the passport turnaround time is taking a lot longer than it did last year due to the new rules & more people applying. So, if we think we will be traveling in the next 3 months, we will ask to have it expedited. Even with all this trouble...I think it is a good idea to req. passports. And Mary...you did all you could & even followed up with those people. Wonder what would have happened had you not called at all? Glad you got to do something. On a positive note, you will now be ready to go if something fun like that comes up again. :)

Who was at the jobsite to sign off on the template decisions? There are so many details. I insist that my clients are at the template to specify these things. And then I check over the CAD drawings, double check everything. Confirm one last time...and then I sign off of them. If something like this wasn't done, they need to change how they template. Aside from that...it's hard to say how long a repair can take. I work with a very large outfit and to get something scheduled for repair sometimes take weeks as well...approvals, etc. But normally, for smaller fixes/adjustments, just a few days. I'd say this is a pretty substantial fix. If it's a small shop, I have no idea how long they take to do repairs. If your kitchen is currently functional, he might have you on the back burner for a while as times are crazy busy. However, someone needs to communicate with you on this. If your GC is on vacation, call or email the stone guy and say you need to get on the schedule for the repair. An email could be good proof of documenting what's going on too. So an email might be the better way to go.

Senior girl I found an old posting of yours as suggested above. I am linking it here. I hope you can get back to a facsimile of your original name. Plus I hope you found a more accommodating hairdresser. I would have been out of there at the first sign of disrespect. :-). 12 years ago I know. https://www.gardenweb.com/discussions/2256174/hairdresser-trying-to-get-rid-of-me

We renewed ours at the Post office on June 28, and received them on July 28, without paying for expidited service. There is a place on the application for a departure date. I put our Sept departure date, I do not know if that makes a difference in timing.

I got one for my 17 yr old son last November. It took about 4 weeks. My father had problems though, he is in his 70's and never had one before. It seems his birth certificate listed him as baby boy Peterson. I guess grandma hadn't thought of a name before the Birth Certificate was made out. SO he had to deal with getting the B.C. correct to have his name before getting a Passport. If you don't have any problems and don't run into a snafu it doesn't take long.

I just renewed my passport and it took one business week. I did not pay for expedited service. I filled out the on-line form and took it to the receiving post office, along with my old passport. They took my picture, collected the money, and mailed everything in to the passport agency. A week later, my new passport was in my mailbox. Pretty good service if you ask me.
