Get a Step Up with a Ladder
This ideabook is very self-explanatory, but I'll write anyway. At some point in my life, I saw a scene in a movie where an uptight librarian went up a library ladder about three rungs, shoved off, and let her long luxurious hair out of it's tightly wound bun while she slid along a long row of shelves. I can't remember which movie, but I've wanted a library ladder ever since.
Ladders are not there just to look pretty; they give us more usable storage space in a room with high ceilings, providing access to shelves way over our heads. For the kind of people who turn their books backwards or buy them in bulk for decoration, it's not a necessary implement, but for us bibliophiles, it sure comes in handy.

This is the ladder I most want to do that long slide on, from one end of the room to the other!
Here the homeowner can access vases way up high with the ladder. I love the way the sleek aluminum ladder matches the chairs.
This room is just hot. I love the stairs, shelves, windows and ladder. Great space.
The ladder in this room emphasizes the staggering height of it even more. I wonder; do the owners slide the furniture over to the other side of the room when they make a fire?
Here the ladder becomes a sculptural element as well as a functional element in the room.
If you don't squint you'll miss the ladder in this shot. I love these shelves.
Ladder in the round?
Sometimes a ladder can serve as shelves itself.
