Ok, so that is a very bad teaser. Here is a better one for now. I ended up keeping appliances in the same place but I adjusted everything else and I LOVE IT! I'll list a few of the things I changed a little later on. Even though I only walked around the old kitchen a few times, I found many things I didn't like and made adjustments to get rid of pretty much all of them while keeping the appliances in the same place. Wow, I sure wouldn't call a craftsman who can make a solid cabinet with strict tolerances "old fart". As more and more of these men die off, we're losing a lot of knowledge and quality craftsmanship. The market moved away from this because most likely the guys at the top could make more money easier and give the consumer a crappier product with less hassles on their end. In the end, kitchen cabinets end up being junk instead of something that a homeowner can be proud of. I know from re-ordering several "off" cabinets that most of what passes for "good" quality these days can't hold a candle to cabinets 40 years ago. It's a pretty bleak outlook for things to come, IMO.

Neither for now. Painting it white will just make it look cheaper and you don’t want to sink money into a new one if you’ll be redoing the bathroom in a few years. I would: -remove the large mirror and get two smaller framed mirrors -switch out dated bar light fixtures -remove backsplash from countertop -repair walls and paint a bright white -scrub the heck out of that shower tile Bright, clean, and a few minor updates will extend this bathroom a few years.

I would love to add shiplap,but which wall? I would add shiplap to every single wall... of my mother-in-law's house. In all seriousness, the way shiplap caught the public's attention means it was well on its way out of style before it ever caught on. I wouldn't bother with it, you will probably hate it in much less than 12 years. I wouldn't bother trying to spend money to make that kitchen look a little bit better, nor would I pay any money to reface it. There are better options out there for a much more functional kitchen that fits your taste and isn't throwing good money after bad. I would start by posting dimensions here and seeing what this community can come up with. Good luck
