Color Advice - new upper cabinets painting existing lower cabinet
Comments (8)Your countertop looks similar in color to your new upper cabinets, so if you really want blue or green, I would go with it. Have you seen the new products at Lowes made by Rustoleum I think that provide an excellent package of products to change the color of your cabinets and a package if you want to change the color of your countertops? I happen to LOVE light green cabinets or apple green....See MoreHire a Painter or a "Cabinet Guy" for Kitchen Cabinet Color Change?
Comments (19)Ellie, your new home is lovely. I looked into painting my current kitchen and pretty much what Live_oak_writes is what I found to be true in terms of prep, cost and quality. The guy I found here in Michigan ONLY paints cabinets and that is the kind of painter I would suggest or a cabinet shop. I am not trying to criticize house painters, but I would only want someone who specializes in cabinets (not a painter of rooms, exteriors, etc). He told me he would remove all the doors and spray in his shop (after sanding, filling in holes, etc.). The boxes would have to be sprayed on-site of course and you need to verify their prep for that. He was willing to paint a sample door for me (find an old maple door at Habitat, etc. and have them use that as a test). I liked what I saw. His Facebook page was impressive. My kitchen is not as nice as yours and I determined it just was not worth it. I recall a thread here recently in which someone painted professionally and it was absolutely wonderful. I am not as good as others at finding pictures/threads, but I will look....See MoreTo keep or change old cabinets in new house
Comments (9)if your contractor could take the uppers at the peninsula and source you some glass doored matching fronts...that would be a start. If he could do that while changing [painting] all the uppers to white that would be even better. Get him to quote you these two changes and think about it. I might ask how he sources the paint job just so you have an idea. I hope it's not his grandkid after school in his shed or something like that. Just a general idea so you know how good an end product you will be getting....it ends up being all about price and convenience for you. Long term, I think you may want to redo the whole thing, so be prudent, but he may be a good resource....See MoreChanging hardware on new factory painted cabinets
Comments (16)Thanks for the suggestions. The colors aren’t accurate in computer photo. There is a dark gray with the browns and creams in counter. The faucet is a two toned gray. The dark gray in faucet matches countertop and light gray is same as pulls. Pulls are ash gray from top knobs. It’s a soft gray. I purposefully didn’t do the nickel because I was looking for a different look. But you are right that would be a good way to minimize the pulls. The house has an old stone fireplace in living room with same colors as counter. Browns creams and gray. I was looking for a rustic, industrial look and the pulls and faucet tie it in. Agree about the knobs (and some pull styles) that catch clothing. These won’t so that’s nice! I probably should have done I smaller pull. Love the size on the peninsula side. Smaller on the other side would have been less in your face! Hoping once backsplash is in it will flow better. Backsplash is porcelain putty and picks up a tone in counter. I’ll do a same color grout so it flows. Thanks for all the great suggestions!...See Morehono0726
