Is it worth it to have new cabinets painted by the cabinet maker?

We are ready to order our new kitchen cabinets (and cabinets for 2 bathrooms) from Chandler Cabinets in Pilot Point, TX. The drawings, pricing and service so far are fine. One option that we planned to decline was having the cabinets finished (i.e., painted white) by Chandler before they are delivered and installed. The hesitation was the cost. The total for the 3 rooms with full overlays and a couple of carefully chosen bells & whistles (knife drawer, trash roll-out, etc) is ~ $18k. The cost for 'Chandler Color' is $6,600. Proportionately, that sounded crazy to us, but a colleague who has some background in kitchen design told me that the finish when they are done at the cabinet maker is far superior to that of hiring a painter to paint them. We don't yet have bids from anyone for painting, so can't compare costs yet, but we're pretty sure it won't be $6k. Thoughts?
