New countertop or new cabinets and countertop

I don't see where to add photos so I added them to "my stories" .I've got a long gallery kitchen, with French bisque colored beadboard cabinets, and the floor does not line up with my taste now. It was installed about 12 years ago.I'm trying to decide what color quartz countertop will work with the floor and cabinets. I checked on having cabinets refaced with the shaker style, in white and was quoted $8,400, but then decided to first change countertop and see if that makes the kitchen look any better.Which would be best bang for my buck?Change cabinets and countertop or just countertop?If just get a new countertop then what color family? White? Cream? Gray?Would I need a different colored sink? (It's cream colored)What color do I paint the walls? Btw, I would love to add shiplap,but which wall?Would I get rid of the beadboard leading towards kitchen?

No ship lap first comment Do not waste money on new counters in that kitchen. You can get an all new Ikea kitchen for that money with a much better layout.

Add pictures to a comment 2 at a time in each comment works best . A to scale floor plan is a must. . The floor plan counts as a picture make sure each picture is no longer grayed before adding the next .

I would love to add shiplap,but which wall?

I would add shiplap to every single wall... of my mother-in-law's house.

In all seriousness, the way shiplap caught the public's attention means it was well on its way out of style before it ever caught on. I wouldn't bother with it, you will probably hate it in much less than 12 years.

I wouldn't bother trying to spend money to make that kitchen look a little bit better, nor would I pay any money to reface it. There are better options out there for a much more functional kitchen that fits your taste and isn't throwing good money after bad.

I would start by posting dimensions here and seeing what this community can come up with.

The tiled backsplash usually sits just off the countertop by an 1/8th inch or so and the gap is caulked. The caulk can be cut away and the countertop should be able to be removed without damaging the backsplash. That's in a perfect world. Some installers set the bottom course of tile right on the countertop. Less clearance. Depending on how the countertop is attached to the cabinets below, that can affect things. The shape of the counter. A straight run or and "L" shaped? Are the ends open or captured? How the countertop is constructed? A slab of stone? Or a tiled-in mud bed? Sometimes the countertop needs to be sectioned out in pieces. In general, the backsplash can usually be preserved, but getting the countertop out might be ugly, especially if it's piece by piece. So..."it depends".

Joseph Corlett, the existing edge profile is eased. Is it more difficult to seam to finished edges? Will there be cutting/grinding required in the house? I imagined that they would get the two pieces cut to size and attach them, maybe with some supports underneath. Is it more complicated than that? Should I just get a new countertop instead of considering this patch job? damiarain, thank you for all the links of the drawer units under induction cooktop. I am aware that there are clearance concerns for the top drawer. However, all photos there also show new countertops under the cooktops, which brings me back to the original question of how required a new countertop is for a cooktop install. This discussion is telling me that this new cooktop installation is more complicated that I originally imagined. I thought replacing 30" range with 30" cooktop would pretty standard. I need to consider leaving the range in place until I get enough money to get a new cooktop, drawer units AND a countertop.

I just renoed a similar size home. Put new cabs with granite. No laundry though. $9k for remnants and chinese cabs. My last laundry room was $1k for ikea and laminate (probably less actually). Base budget for current build is $35k. A bit more square footage but it would scale down to $28k for you. So my suggested range is $10k to $28k. Helpful? probably not but really the best I can do. Add 20% for HCOLA. What you can do from plans is get linear feet of cabs. That helps. Island? Paint vs stain? Crown/end panels etc? Custom panels for appliances? Ceiling height and plan for uppers (stacked/tall uppers etc). But most importantly is expectation on door complexity and degree of customization.

In the first plan, I do like the closet placement in the master, but both bedrooms limit furniture placement. The Second plan makes furniture placement more flexible. It is unfortunate that as you walk in from the front door, you see the kItchen before anything else; at least the first plan leads you through the labyrinth to a view out the windows. And in the second, entering from the garage forces you to walk around to the bedrooms. If you could combine the half-bath and full-bath, you could have the laundry also be a walk-through to the bedrooms (and I just love having circulation opportunities in a house).

Haha that's really funny about the shiplap!I posted 2 screenshot to my kitchen idea book. I was not able to download pictures here. I posted comments underneath the two new pictures. One shows the dimensions which is 8' by 13' 10"
