My weekend project...

Another re-purposing project. This was my son's mirror from a set he had as a little boy from This End Up. Over the years the mirror went to my DH (then boyfriend) and got spray painted a hammered black finish. I stripped, sanded, and tiled it for his new apartment townhouse he shares with a friend. I picked up the glass tile at HD for $5 a foot. So for $30 worth of tile; I gave him his mirror back, albeit updated:

I love re-purposing things. My son just loved it and I had a blast hanging out working on it this weekend. What am I going to do when I run out of projects?

Dad gum it, when you run out of projects, come to my house and knock yourself out! I have a whole bunch of old reclaimed windows that came out of a cottage that was recently torn down...lots of potential. Alas, I have no talent.

That mirror looks just great! Very nice job indeed. And oh yeah, when you come, feel free to bring the cute dog, too!

Love your glow in the dark globe. I was wondering how well they look at night. Love your makeshift stand. Matches very well. I have seen the hummingbird "corks" and thought of making one out of a bottle too. Thanks for sharing the link! I love all your stained glass creations too!

Thanks everyone!! Luna--I used a 22 gauge floral wire (I had a whole paddle of it that i used for another craft). I prefer the heavier gauge because it holds its bends a lot better and doesn't rust through as quickly. I just twisted the wire and attached it to the inside of the pitcher using old reliable GE Silicone II (I use that stuff a LOT!). Because I butted the beads right up next to each other pretty tightly *and* spray-coated it, it should hold up pretty well (i hope!)

Lynn...I feel for you Big Time.. I know of all the 'prep' that goes into doing a huge painting job and it's no picnic. But like the others have said, think of how relieved you will now feel that it's all behind you. It does play havoc on your body too...seems there are muscles used that we never knew we had till they ache! The reason I can relate..when we lived in our 'This Old House'... DH always had some 'project' or reno planned that would start in the Spring, But ALWAYS went right up to the final hrs before the Holidays. This always brought on major stress since we were the ones who would host all the family for Christmas. I do have to say, once it was over..it was over and it felt sooo good to enjoy what was done... This too will pass Lynn...once it's all put together again, I know I will be 'seeing' your big smile as you're enjoying the results! jane

I am guessing you'll never run out of projects if you like doing projects like that mirror! Anyone who has a design, art, or crafty cell in there body, never runs out of projects! The mirror looks great! And, did we get to see a faceless picture of you, too??!! Cute puppy beside you.

I had This end Up furniture too !! We bought it in Chapel Hill NC in 1977. We got the sofa and 2 chairs and the footstool and coffee table and end table. We then added a set of bunk beds and the chest of drawers in 1979. It has had 3 different covers on the furniture. My middle son still has the chairs/sofa/coffee table and end table. They are as good as they were when they were new. We sold the bunk beds and chest in 2000. You did a great job on the mirror !! c

Wow, that is an awesome transformation! Very creative! I've never thought to use the glass mosaics from HD that way, great idea!

Very nice job! I agree with others, if you're a project person, you'll never run out. I'm great at starting them, no so good at finishing :/

My problem is once I start... I want to work straight through until completion. I have to force myself to allow for all the little steps that make a project look more professional. I've learned some patience (still a work in progress) from my DH. He's incredibly exacting. This was an easy breezy one though.
