Can I Transplant Ferns or What Can I do?
Comments (3)Definitely looks like a Cyathea, and most probably cooperi. They're not as easy to transplant as a Dicksonia, but it can be done. Better during a wetter more humid time of year. Need to trim the fronds off and keep well watered during and after the process. Don't put it into direct sun, especially afternoon. Make sure the new position is well drained and protected from dry winds....See MoreWhat is doing this? And what can I do?
Comments (4)Hi again, I'm sorry no one has come up with an answer. I think it is something fungal also, because of how the leaves get worse and all brown. Bugs can make swiss cheese of leaves, but the leaves don't seem to curl up and die. But I don't know what exact disease is attacking your plants. I even searched for buddleia diseases and pests and came up empty. Do you have a cooperative extension service, like how I have Cornell here, or a very good nursery near you? I would take samples in sealed plastic bags to be examined. I hope you find an answer, Remy...See MoreToilet leaking at wax seal. What can I do until I can get it fixed?
Comments (8)Hi again. The leaking toilet is from the late 50's by Richmond. The two closet bolts that are missing are located at the rear of the toilet. Are there replacement bolts for a toilet this old? The other two bolts look original. I cannot understand why that plumber I hired six months ago didn't replace the missing bolts and didn't fix the movement in the toilet. Shouldn't he have addressed these issues when he was here, since I told him about them? When a plumber comes to fix the currently leaking wax seal, what if he finds that the wood structure underneath is wet or rotted? There could have been a small leak that I didn't know about. Is it the plumber's job to replace rotted wood, or does that require hiring a builder/carpenter? If the wood is only damp, then can the plumber go ahead and replace the wax seal and set the toilet that same day without waiting for the wood to dry? If there is damage/rot to the wood, how long does a repair like this usually take to fix? I only have one toilet in this house. Thank you for any help....See MoreI think my Blue Jay has Southern Blight---what can I do?
Comments (3)You want to take care of it immediately. Move it away from the others. (I'm assuming your hosta are still in pots.) It's in the soil, so you want to get rid of the soil. I don't know if you remember Moccasin, but she used Hydrogen Peroxide. She watered it down, but I don't remember the mixture. It's a fungus, so things that will kill mold will most likely kill the rot. Just get rid of the spores, or they will spread to other hosta. (Trash the soil and put it in new soil.) Here are some suggestions from the American Hosta Society. They suggest chemicals and/or a bleach solution. Here's a link to the hosta library instructions for handling the fungus. There is an extensive article at the HERE link, which isn't underlined, so don't miss it. He explains how he rids his garden of Southern Blight. BK...See More- 13 years ago
