What type of window are you using these rods on?

I confess to not knowing what the wrap around ends are for.

The wraparound ends let you wrap the curtains around the side-- but in my case, they take the place of some kind of decorative end on the rod-- which I dont want.

Pardon the paint cans, scattered furniture and general disorder.. this photo was taken before I moved in. The cafe curtains will be on these two windows.

Maddielee.. the ones I found on amazon were either double rods or too short-- or from a third party (I won't use amazon third party sellers).

Laurie-- the PB Essential was the other I was considering! I like them as well. Do you have a photo of them in your home? The PB photo makes them look almost as dark as antique brass.

Have you looked at Ikea? It looks like they have corner connectors, but since i am not sure exactly what you have in mind, I don't know if they would work.

That's perfect, Laurie.. they look great and they are a bit cheaper than the West Elm french rod. Now I need to decide black or pewter.

Thank you too, Graywings-- I love that price but I want nickel or pewter. I am also thinking that this is the place to spend a little money since they will be at eye-level. I think I'll use the cheaper ones where they will hang higher.

I wasn't planning to use a corner connector-- just a rod across each double window. Do you think that's a mistake? I am looking for a very simple style.. I'll hang these curtains at eye level (you can see into three rooms from the windows on the left). No other WT planned.. I love the light that comes in here.

I can attest to the JCP rod. Very sturdy, easy to install, and nice quality. They are pretty beefy, though. I looked at the Walmart ones in person, and they were OK, but quite a bit thinner and more delicate than the JCP rod.

Those are sometimes called "return curtain rods." If you google that, you'll get a fair number of hits.

"Return rods" Aha! That was the trick! Thank you, Camlan.. and thank you all! What you've made me see is the importance of the size of the rod which I wasn't exactly ignoring but hadn't considered seriously enough-- for this installation, I want a rod that is sturdy enough for the 80" reach but that isnt visually imposing (which is also why I've opted to go pewter or nickel rather than black).

I think the JCP rods are perfect for my other rooms and I love the price. It's a great compromise from the very inexpensive walmart rods and the very nice but more more expensive WE and PB rods. I am going to stick with the French rods for this room,

Something I havent shared is that I screwed up with the hemstitch curtains. Each panel is 40" wide-- which will barely cover the window when closed. I am going to try three panels on each window set but am prepared to go with 4. This "inexpensive and easy" window treatment plan has quadrupled in cost between the cafe panels and the rods but I think it's a look I'll be happy with. I always saw patterned shades on these windows but I quickly recognized that I didnt want to lose the light.

Try looking up "french pole". Looks like you may need a middle support for your stretch of windows.

Thanks, Sallymo.. all the longer length rods I've considered come with a center support.

I used these, from Ann & Hope. I like them for insulated curtains.
