Does anyone keep their veggies in an under the counter refrig?

Hi again. As I play with my layout I keep coming up with new questions.

To put my veggies closer to my sink and prep area (can't seem to get my big fridge close enough), I am thinking about under the counter fridge drawers. I've only heard about these but have never seen one. I never seem to have enough space in the produce drawers of my fridge anyways so this seems like the perfect answer. Anyone have experience with fridge drawers and any recommendations?

plllog has done this and loves it. She also uses the drawer during her mammoth family dinners to hold food that's further along in the process. She seems to have disappeared lately :-( which is why I'm being a busybody and speaking for her.

Thanks marcolo. I think I would love it too but then I looked at the price. They seem to be around $2000. I'll have to decide how much I'll love it!

I looked into installing a single wall oven under an induction cooktop (I ended up getting an induction slide-in range though). What was interesting was that most induction brands allowed it IF the wall oven was the same brand as the cooktop. This included Kitchenaid - don't know where you got your information, but the installation instructions do allow for it with certain ovens - it turns out it is the Kitchen Aid single ovens. Two brands did not allow for a single oven under the cooktop even with their own brands (well, it voided the warranty so the same thing): Bosch and Thermador. No problem with Jennair, Kitchenaid, GE, Electrolux, and Frigidaire. I think Whirlpool also didn't allow it, but I wasn't considering that brand. Don't worry about the venting. There is some venting in all ovens - whether built in wall ovens or ranges. The vents aren't any more hot for a wall oven than a regular range. The reason I chose a slide-in induction range had nothing to do with the height of the oven. The wall oven under the cooktop would have been about the same height as a range's oven. Rather, I really liked the Kitchenaid induction with its (albeit small) second baking drawer. I cook a lot and could see using this. Plus, the cost was much less for a slide-in than a separate cooktop and wall oven. Our house is being remodeled and we haven't even been able to move in yet - so I haven't used it. I hope I love it. It does look nice.

Anyone here doing concrete counter tops?

A good friend of ours has done many concrete countertops and they look amazing. We seriously considered it for our remodel. The staining/etching is what turned us off. To be perfectly frank I'm a slob in the kitchen. A countertop that would be damaged by red wine or lemon left on it overnight is just not feasible. Instead we went with soapstone. If it can hold up to legions of teenage chemistry students I feel it can hold up to me. :D If you do decide to go with concrete have you seen the books by Fu-Tung Cheng? They're excellent. Soapstone can be a lot more affordable as a DIY project. The quarry we bought from has DIY kits for about $25/sq ft or you could make it even cheaper by using tiles. Soapstone seams incredibly well.

We looked at this one, but did you check the measurements? It's actually a 28" deep fridge, which is why the capacity is so much higher than all the other counter-depth fridges even with the water/ice dispenser. Kitchenaid makes a 70" tall counter-depth fridge that was our choice until we realized we could go with a 33" deep fridge due to some strange wall configurations in our kitchen. It's the same fridge sold under different names and different trims, I believe Jenn-Air, Whirpool, and others.

granite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?

These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens.

I have one of those Fisher and Paykel drawers I use as a freezer and I love it. I found mine on Ebay for $650.

Yes, we have an E-lux undercounter drawers fridge claiming to have 6 cu. ft. Absolutely love it. I do put extra produce there. I bought it mainly for dh's cokes and I know that is a big splurge but he was always getting in my way digging his cokes out of the old miserable side x s. He also often complained that his cokes weren't cold enough and would fiddle with the temp and freeze the lettuce.

A huge advantage in our not-large kitchen is that this uc fridge directs traffic away from the main cooking area-I tell guests to get a cold soda and they are out of my way. So it has an opposite effect from what your plan is. But you will love it for having produce near your sink. Too bad that you can't get the main fridge closer.

Only downside is that it was $2000. Our main fridge was around $1500-1600.

It's quiet 99.9% of the time. Cold. Capacious. Perfect.

A rude reminder of how that dream was slapped down promptly. I don't feel a need for most luxury extras, but I would have liked an undercounter in the prep area for veggies. My bins are also always too small.
