Knockoff for good Taste?

Probably not. DD daughter loves the cabs this company (atlanta) makes. This 36" for bathroom is $5k, so will,not happen. Are there tasteful knockoffs anywhere . Eye of beholder, but in general, do you know of any?

Hmm, see I wasn't clear. She loved many of their cabs, not just this style. Wondering where to find knock-offs of great cabs in general, if there is such a thing in decent style and quality?

Have you considered looking at dressers of similar style and having one reclaimed for the bath? I can't tell how the top is finished with a sink though.

OLD post but I thought I'd chime in after reading a few of the above posts. I think it's very ignorant to assume that California doesn't receive frosts and freezes. California is home to the most diverse climates maybe in the world. The central valley of Cali(where most of the agriculture is) just so happens to be the perfect climate for cool weather crops to grow. it's cool enough for them to thrive, while not so cold that they can't be grown. There's a reason why 95% of the broccoli grown in the U.S. is grown in California. Back to the diversity -- There's a reason why so many fruits and veggies come from California. Believe me, it's not the price of the water...LOL it's the fact that "somewhere" in the state, from apples to oranges, from garlic to tomatoes -- there's a place that a particular veggy or fruit will thrive because of the CLIMATE. You can buy every type / brand model faucet on ebay or online in general these days... so, it's not the sales / distribution channel that determines whether or not the faucet it garbage or not. It is the brand... and ultimately price that does. From birth we've all heard the saying "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is." And nowhere is this more true than plumbing and lighting fixtures. I've been building new and renovating old houses for over 25 yrs and I can assure you--as someone who has bought, installed, replaced, and returned countless faucets and light fixtures--that you get what you pay for in construction. In fact, I rarely use anything but Kohler plumbing fixtures anymore--since (a) I have never had to replace one and (b) they have an extremely generous warranty and repair parts policy--though they are generally on the more expensive end of the spectrum. Without exception, any cheap, Chinese made faucet that you install will have to be replaced within a very short time period if it gets any regular use. And it will be difficult if not impossible to find repair / service parts for it. As opposed to Kohler, for example, which supports their products virtually forever. So, you not only have to consider the up-front costs... but the long term costs--and the very real potential for damages that a cheap fixture that fails can cause in your home. Unless you're a handy-man / DIY type--who can install, replace, and repair your own plumbing--these legacy costs will easily be more than the difference in price between that cheap foreign knock off and a good Kohler fixture. And Kohler just makes better looking stuff anyway. If you can't find a Kohler product that works perfectly for your project--you're doing it wrong. They avoid cliche and short term trends--opting for a more classy, classic product line up--that "ages" well stylistically. But they have beautiful options for all segments of the style spectrum--from neo-classical / traditional to ultra-contemporary to industrial. All you have to do is pick up a Kohler faucet in one hand and pick up a cheap knock off in the other to notice the difference between them; the Kohler will likely weight twice what the cheaper faucet does. And that extra weight is more brass and thicker, better plating, etc.

LOL, Dcarch. My old friend Renee who used to post on the Cooking Forum, owned a coffee shop. She called it "Charbucks" and said they roasted their coffee too darkly so they could cover the fact that they were using inferior beans. Of course, she also called Maxwell House "floor sweepings". (grin) I make my coffee just like Sleevendog, starting with green beans and roasting them myself, grinding right before I make the coffee, using filtered water heated in my electric kettle and poured over grounds in the Chemex. The one thing that jumped out at me too was that the OP guessed at the proportions of coffee to water. I "played" with the Chemex for a week or so before I found just the right ratio to suit me. Find the ratio that suits you and use that amount every time, and your coffee will be consistent. And, incidentally, I drink both coffee and tea, depending on my mood. I like iced tea in the summer, but not iced coffee. I like both hot tea and hot coffee when it's cooler outside, and I've been known to drink a mocha occasionally too. I guess I just like it all... bklyn - not sure if it is a function of the camera or format but so far, any pics that I took as "portrait" have posted and displayed (at least to me) as "portrait" (right side up). Those that were taken as landscape have displayed as landscape. I did have earlier issues with Houzz regarding portrait pics posting sideways (landscape) and the past week or so I couldn't post anything in the ideabook to include in a forum, which at one point was the only way I could get a pic posted because the "photo" button didn't work (at least for me). However this past week it let me directly upload a pic with the "photo" button (couldn't do it before).

I have a dresser or whatever piece of furniture was "reclaimed" for a vanity. Can't wait to get rid of it. The plumbing and sinks took most of the storage space and wood + water from the sink don't get along well. Habitat may get one that someone already did the work on if I'm not able to sell it on Craigslist this winter.

My 3 vanities are all made from antique dressers/bureaus and I LOVE them. The drawers were simply cut around the plumbing and have plenty of storage. I put remnant granite or marble on top of each of mine. I second the CL option to try to find one, or if you can post a pic of a style she DOES like, we may be able to help.

I've always loved the Ethan Allen chest below (when I though she liked the style above) but it looks like they don't stock in any more. I just looked for it a few weeks ago and saw it on their site then; bummer.

Cole & Co has some high-fashion 36" sink chests for about half of 5k, but I have never seen them up close. They are sold on Wayfair, Ebay, etc.

Maybe you could talk her into a statement-piece mirror and a more ordinary vanity.

Our great decor minds think alike.:). Repurposong a chest was my first thought. Two problems: it takes a prolonged hunt, and this is a tall family in need of the newer height vanity. Few antique dressers, chests, etc. are tall enough, even with the added inch or so of marble.
Thanks, Jamie's, but $2500 is still twice as much as she'll put onto the powder room cab.
