Comments (11)Do not harvest sorrel leaves that grow in the very hot summer months - they collects to much of oxalic acid in hot weather and it is not good for your kidney. I usually pick leaves till June, then let them grow and bolt. In August I cut all the leaves to the ground, fertilize, and let it grow again. Now it can be picked till frost....See MoreWhat are some good green cleaners?
Comments (30)I use Simple Green as a all-purpose cleaner. It's non-toxic, although I couldn't find it on the linked site. You can use it full strength for some jobs and dilute it down for things like washing windows. It is fantastic at cutting grease and oil--use it full strength on oil spots on garage floors. Barkeeper's Friend is similar to Bon Ami, but a tiny bit more likely to scratch things. Bon Ami is gentler. For things that just have to be clean (as opposed to sanitized), microfiber cloths do a great job with just water. If you need to polish up chrome or stainless, they are fantastic. Use two to wash windows. One wet to clean, one dry to dry the window and keep it streak-free. No chemicals at all....See MoreGreen leafy veggies for container growing in cool gh
Comments (2)I agree with dig. I'm in No Ca . zone 8-9 with some medium freezes and most of my greens (lettuce, kale, chard, spinach, arugula) do fine with a mild freeze. Broccholi is doing OK. Most of the winter greens don't need a GH. Nancy...See Moreleafy greens going to seed, can i trim them?
Comments (5)If you get the aforementioned mixing of kinds and characteristics then you may not want to save seeds from this planting anyway. It sounds like there may be a high probability of getting mongrels, something that may get worse if you keep saving and planting seed from the same set year after year. It may actually be the case that for this to work at all you need to plant separate blocks of each kind, with some distance between them. Like a commercial seed production operation might do. You might want to read more about this aspect, find out what the normal parameters are before putting much effort into labeling, packaging and storing seeds from the current planting....See Morejulia42
