Another Maine CL bargain find! Italian chairs for $40 each

I saw these weeks ago, when OSH was going to see them in Freeport, but couldn't pin down the seller for a time. She eventually bought a desk chair in navy faux leather that is beautiful, and perfect for her study.

So I finally got a small window of time to see the seller today. Come to find out she is a naval pilot, stationed at Maine's Brunswick Naval Air Base, which is closing soon, She flew to Jacksonville, FL and back yesterday, and will be stationed there this winter.

Anyhow...the top picture is from her CL ad, and the others of the cane back one are in my living room. The label under the seats show that they were made in Milan, Italy. The leather is ivory, not the white that it appears in her pic. I paid $40 each.

I'll keep the cane back one as it is. For the other, I may make it a tad more French country by making a seat cushion to sit on top of the leather one, and back cover that I may just make ties for, and following the curve of the back, make a Âslip coverÂ for the back and tie it down where the wood on the side meets the seat. Not quite like my dream chair in the link below, but maybe with a little sewing, I can get that 'flavor'.

All I can say is Holy Cow!! Those are some sweeeet chairs. Knowing how resourceful and talented you are, I am certain one of those chairs will turn into your "dream chair". Perfect! (and you know I'm drooling and waiting with bated breath in anticipation).

Good morning, everyone! allison, The 1/2 bath might be considered a 'folly' down there! I do have a small area around it somewhat finished, but the rest of it will always be a spot to work on my many hobbies, like furniture refinishing, messy crafty stuff, you-name-it. I also have a doggie door in the opposite 'working' side of the cellar, that goes to a former garage under my office, which I made that into a wood working 'shop' years ago. Another doggie door in the shop takes them out to their fenced in area of the yard. The cellar and the shop are valuable real estate to me, just as they are. I do have 3 windows and a door with glass in that 'living' part of the cellar, as well as a wood stove, and an armoire with a TV it in. It's cozy in the winter with the stove, and cool in the summer and the couch down there is great for naps! These pics are of my former LR sofa down there and a 'reading' nook with big chair. Not much decorating has taken place yet! The door you see on the right in this pic is to the 1/2 bath. This is the reading nook which faces the wood stove. Being a dog lover, I got this original oil painting of a Springer from eBay for $21.49! His eyes are a perfect match to the Behr 'Cork' paint color. And this is Ikat fabric called Casbah, that I got at 1/2 price at Ballard Designs. I might make sill length panels for the 1/2 bath for fall and winter from it. The way it goes with that paisley wallpaper is the stuff that (my) dreams are made of. I'm happy to see so many paisley lovers here, as I have always been one, and I LOVE to mix patterns in a room, even a small one like this. I'm glad that others are inspired by my 're-cycled' bathroom! I'd never have done it if there hadn't been a rough one down there to start; but I just replaced that with one that even I'll use. No more storing tires and hoses in this one.

Ten bucks for all three! If you love MCM finds, you would be racing over to buy this set, at this price. If you hate MCM stuff, you are cringing and wouldn't give a Nickle for it, I know. These are listing this as a *Marble Footstool*. Gee, I've always hated having a comfortable, padded, upholstered footstool for my feet. LOL. I wonder if I could repurpose it into a plantstand???? Anyway, it is only $10! And looks like real marble. ----------- Only $35 and they say no stains or rips! This is listed as a *Church Pew Style Bench. They think they can get $50 for it. They have two of them for sale and only picture one. Is the other one in even worse condition??? The ad says "These benches are perfect for churches." Amazon prime days got a waterpik at 56 % off. Went to a garage sale down the road yesterday. Lady just wanted to get rid of her late hording husband's things. My online art course! I'm taking classes in watercolor painting from Domestika, a company in Spain. They offer a lot of courses in a variety of fields, mostly artistic, and I learned about them when many of their courses were on sale. I added a discount coupon I found online, so the total price of my course was under $10. I didn't want live classes, so this is perfect for me as I can work on it whenever I want. I'm impressed with the structure, the content, and the instructor. The only downside is that the course is in Spanish, and the poorly-translated English subtitles are often confusing. It's also a challenge to watch what the instructor is doing and read the subtitles at the same time. But that's what pause and rewind is for. I'm enjoying the course so much that I've already signed up for another one, also under $10. I have the feeling Domestika puts its courses on sale often--maybe all the time? I really don't know about that, but I can say there's nothing cheesy about them. Even the subtitles have been a positive because they sometimes make me laugh. In the age of Covid I appreciate all such opportunities!

loribee, I hate to say that even though I live a 1/2 hour from Freeport, I seldom go there! The crowds, especially on a dark, rainy, foggy day like yesterday are too much. And I didn't even know about the Whoopie Pie place, darn it! It was a quick run up and a quicker run back, with a doggy co-pilot and navigator.

I sent the pic to my sister, and she replied, "They are beautiful! I could use the all leather one in my bedroom just as it is!", so I may be sharing the wealth, since she babysits my dogs when I have to travel for work.

my3dogs, I need you to find me an antique dark oak round dining table, pedestal style, 42" round with leaves for extension. Something that will go well with my dark oak Stickley Mission bookcases. Thanks.

I search my own (Boston area) CL almost daily, as well as RI because I am down here a lot in the summer, and I never find anything good!

Those chairs are amazing for $40 a piece!

I'm sorry to say that from now on when I see you post a CL find I'm just not opening it. It is too painful to view. You find the most fabulous stuff at the most incredible prices. Should you ever retire from your current job, you could have a new career picking up Maine CL stuff & reselling it to the rest of us.

Hmmm, all I can think is that someday after all this (CL) explorin', scorin', and storin' you'll be having to wind your way through all the finds. Then..aha!..then YOU shall become a (CL) stellar seller! I wanna be in Maine on that day!
p.s absolutely gorgeous chairs..Photos when in place, please....especially after the "slipcover" is on.

Oh, Peanut! That is a sweetie! What a cute little foot rest, I'd called it. I haven't done any checking today, so I need to get lookin'!

Ladies, I plan to have a yard sale this summer, if we EVER get a few decent days in a row. I have some incredible antique/vintage lamps, including this old brass rooster one. After I bought this one (eBay) another sort of like it came up for over $300!

Oh Bungalow, I was about to post those for the person upstream in this thread who was looking for a round table, but realized she needed a pedestal style. My experience is that you can indeed find things on our CL, but it's hard to find them for a real steal of a price like those tables.

If I can join the hijincks, I did score a $50 CL loveseat a few months back that is now the soul-mate of your rooster lamp, My3Dogs -- !
Originally, it was tired ripped orange velvet, but I got inspired and reupholstered it myself. Perfect for our bungalow breakfast nook (which we still need to paint .. will it ever be done?):

BH - now at THAT price, why wouldn't you scoop up one of those tables for your coffee table? They look like they'd be perfect cut down.

CP, that love seat is adorable! I just love the old one in my office, that started out rust and ivory big checks from 'Country Farm Furniture', I don't know how many years ago. The small size is perfect, and it looks to be the size of yours. Great job re-doing it!

Update - my sister scoffed up the 'all leather' chair above faster than you can imagine. It's in her bedroom already where I hear it looks great. My mother wants the other one, but I told her I'd find her another chair for her bedroom! It'll be the payment for the next time she has to baby sit my dogs when I travel for work.
