Corner Sink and Pull-Out Trash
Comments (16)Argh...just saw this...sorry for the really, really late reply. Our sink is the Franke Orca...I can't remember the exact dimensions, I think it's about 30" wide?? I remember that our cabinet sales person wasn't 100% sure it would fit in a 36" corner cab, so that's why we went to the 42". In hindsight, I'm glad we did as it is very roomy. The trash ended up on the left because the peninsula contains the range, and on either side I have drawers (one for dishes and one for pots and pans). Pots and pans are to the right of the range, dishes to the left. When emptying the dishwasher, I basically just pick up the dishes and swivel over to the drawer and put them in. It's SO easy it's almost disgusting. Yeah, I guess we do lean over the trash to put the dishes away, but it hasn't been an inconvenience. I don't really notice it. I'll try to pay attention tonight to see if I do anything different!...See MoreDo you have Hafele blind corner pull outs?
Comments (9)List for Magic Corner 2 mechanism is 1530 to 1530, stores 1080 sq ins- don't put a drawer above it, not the best thing for feild install. A better choice is the Hafele Lemans units- list $870- stores either 884" or 1057 (the one that takes the same wall space as the MC 2- do NOT get the smallest one unless you have no choice) Easier to use with aging back, more flexible storage, can still have a drawer, can be feild installed easily. You have to watch the direction that they swing out if near a range. There is a limiter that can keep it from hitting a range if it must be placed there. An alternative are the Rev-A-Shelf half moon pullouts- Plastic ones list at $272, Wood 441. Again don't get the smallest, storage is less than Lemans but they pull out in a different direction. Lemans is my first choice for blinds BUT final determination is made based on door opening and direction of swing/clearanc, and storage requirements. I disagree that a super susan is the most efficient- depends on the layout. When doing a susan, if I'm doing either frameless or inset I always use a Suzi Q- which has a slightly higher sq in than typical pie cut super susan but is easier to use.(Suzi Q is NOT field install ever)...See Morehow to replace trash compactor with pull-out trash? need cabinet?
Comments (9)Sorry to bump this after so much time. Here's a picture of the trash compactor. This is the pull out trash/recycling system that I want. http://www.pullsdirect.com/rev-a-shelf-5349-2150dm-2-5349-series-double-50-quart-pull-out-waste-container-with-soft-close-slides/p1573591. It says that it fits in a 15 inch width cabinet. It took me this long to contact a few custom cabinet makers in my area. 2 of them have told me that to replace the trash compactor with the double pull out trash/recycling that I want, I would need to not only have a cabinet door/face, but also they'd need to create a cabinet box and a frame too. However, by doing this, the width of the side of the cabinet box would mean that they wouldn't be able to put in the pull-out that I want, which needs a width of 14.8 inches (the trash compactor is 15 inches), so I'd need to select a different one, which would have a much smaller bin size. The one I want has 2 50 quart bins, and I would have to go down to 2 27 quart bins, I think, to get it to fit, which is a big difference. I'm also talking to a third custom cabinet guy who said that there might be a way to be able to put in a "floor" to where the trash compactor was, so he could install the double pull out I want (which is bottom mounted, not side mounted) without any sides, and then put some type of frame at the top only, so something that the cabinet door could rest against while closed, but said he'd have to think about how to create it, and get back to me. I'm waiting to hear from him to see if he's thought of something that would work. In addition, the price estimates I've gotten so far were substantially higher than I was expecting. Alison, I'd love to know the details of how you and your dh did this. Did you add a whole cabinet box? If not, what did you mount your pullout to, and what does your door rest against? I would appreciate any ideas. Thanks! Here is a link that might be useful: rev-a-shelf double pull out...See Morecorner sink, dishwasher, pull out trash
Comments (22)I wonder if that great ocean view could be maximized so it's enjoyed more than just when you are doing the dishes. (maybe rearrange the layout to add a breakfast nook?). FWIW I used to hate that my sink window looked at the neighbor's house, not far away. I'd previously built a fence with an arbor and trellis (to match the rest of the fence) but still didn't love it. But when we rebuilt the fence, I swapped out the lattice section for something that looks more craftsman to go w/ my house (my neighbor even allowed us to make it solid on his side, which helps block the view.). With all my existing plantings and vines, I'm amazed at how much better it is. Here's a pic that's somewhat similar to what I had: My new fence/arbor is closer to this (but solid). Plus plantings and vines. Since the breezeway is all on your property, you can do anything you want!...See Moreelizpiz
