Building my own pull-out trash for under sink?
Comments (7)Petra - I don't want to go that route as it gets to be too small for any that mounts like that and not have too much of a load on the door. Had it at my first house I owned and it worked good there except for larger items. Sweeby - that sounds just like what I want to do. Except I was thinking bottom mounts. Comments (16)Argh...just saw this...sorry for the really, really late reply. Our sink is the Franke Orca...I can't remember the exact dimensions, I think it's about 30" wide?? I remember that our cabinet sales person wasn't 100% sure it would fit in a 36" corner cab, so that's why we went to the 42". In hindsight, I'm glad we did as it is very roomy. The trash ended up on the left because the peninsula contains the range, and on either side I have drawers (one for dishes and one for pots and pans). Pots and pans are to the right of the range, dishes to the left. When emptying the dishwasher, I basically just pick up the dishes and swivel over to the drawer and put them in. It's SO easy it's almost disgusting. Yeah, I guess we do lean over the trash to put the dishes away, but it hasn't been an inconvenience. I don't really notice it. I'll try to pay attention tonight to see if I do anything different!...See MoreShow me your Ikea Sektion Trash Pull-out under sink with disposal!
Comments (1)Here's ours. What I ended up doing was getting a 15" deep drawer for the 24" deep cabinet. I still had to use a medium depth drawer, the deep wouldn't fit. You can see the automatic cabinet opener installed on the bottom of the cab, which works moderately well....See MoreDishwasher next to Ikea 47" Corner Cabinet with Utrusta pull-out
Comments (13)Hi there Richard! I did end up with the pull out cabinet next to the dishwasher. But I went with the lazy Susan next to the range. I’ll try to include some pictures of the pull out cabinet so you can see the clearance. Unfortunately I do not have my dishwasher yet because of manufacturing delays. So I can’t speak to the functionality first hand yet, but I am confident it will work for my kitchen. The pull out cabinet has a 2” filler piece next to the door and then another 2” filler strip jutting out towards the dishwasher. This will allow room for both the cabinet door and dishwasher door to fully open (not at the same time of course). I will have a small (1” projection) knob on the cabinet door. I ordered a Bosch dishwasher with integrated handle so it won’t stick out too far and does not need to be installed too far in front of the cabinets because Bosch does not vent out the front of the DW like some other brands. For reference in the photos, the countertop over where the dishwasher will go measures 25.5” from the wall. One downside I predict in my small kitchen is not being able to unload the dishwasher directly into the drawers since the drawers will be our main storage. This was something another user here pointed out to me. However, my options were limited in this small space and I decided I don’t mind moving dishes to the counter first (they are never dry with my other more expensive DW anyway). I picked the lazy Susan next to the range instead of the pull out for a few reasons: A. I didn’t know the depth of the range I would get so it was a safer choice for door clearance. B. My ikea had limited stock when I was ordering and this ended up our best configuration because we could squeeze in an extra cabinet on the long wall using lazy Susan instead of the pull out cabinet. I haven’t used them a ton yet as we don’t have appliances yet and are still working on finishing up the project, so haven’t been cooking etc., but I am impressed with the functionality of both corner cabinets. I’ll include a picture of the lazy Susan in the other corner too. The range will go next to it but we’re waiting on that still too. No clearance concerns with the lazy susan. Sorry for all the mess! Does that help? Let me know if you have any questions!...See Moregirl_wonder
