I do love wallpaper in the right place. We have an older home with cheap paneling in one room. I finally painted and wallpapered it. I have done it 3 different times now. My hubby put up a chair rail on one long wall and across the end window wall. The room is long and narrow. We put up a wall and put a hot tub in behind a wall in one end. And the rest of the room is where you enter from the back of the house. I painted the door wall and below the chair rail a slate blue. Then I wallpapered the wall above the chair rail and all of the wall opposite the window. Then I ran a border all the way around. My wallpaper is kinda of a faux look with small red dots. My trim is white. I have a double window and am making a double layered topper out of small red check homespun. The bottom print is almost the same as the tan color in the wall paper. I am trying to decide if I want tabs or not. This type curtain is often in the country books we get in the mail We have a cabin in Southern Indiana and I hae made some for it. They are so cute. With the double layer, the curtain doesn't fade so quickly. I hope to get done this week. My hubby couldn't get over what a difference it made..

AboutToGetDusty, did they have a fire? I can't imagine doing something on my stove top that would melt anything on the walls. Our range has a back to it, too it's not a countertop inset range. It would require a large fire on the stovetop to affect the wallpaper in our kitchen. Anyway this stuff is not vinyl it is a type of foam, and meets CA fire code or it wouldn't be sold here. ao34, ours is the Allen and Roth brand from lowes, link below. well I have to tell my experience. I purchased a house in Fl and some numb nut (PO) had the bright idea to put CONTACT paper on some of the walls in the house. At first I tried to take the paper down in the bathroom. I scored it, sprayed it and then wondered why it was not peeling off the wall. That is when I discovered it was contact not regular wallpaper. Well after taking it down with half the drywall I skimmed the wall and then decided my finish was not smooth enough so it had to be covered up with wallpaper. I went to Home Depot and they had a textured grasspaper wallpaper ...not too busy. Well I put it up and painted it a peach first. uggh, light green, uggh, pale lemon, ugggh then a soft white. Much as I hate white walls it was perfect. The reaction from others? "did you know you have texture on the walls?" LOL in other words it went over well. The white makes it kind of blend in and changes the feel of the white walls so much. Okay so now I was all boosted up from the reaction so I noticed that the wall paper in the bedroom is regular wallpaper with all these ugly colors in it and the bamboo was kind of raised. Looked like real cheap paper that did not match my decor AT ALL so I painted over it as well and what do you know... it was beautiful! I don't have any pictures because I have sold the house but last year I saw the house was on the market and they had a virtual tour and when I took the tour online I saw they did not change the wallpaper at all. When I was selling the house lots of people commented that they liked the walls. The white makes the rooms look much larger and with the texture it creates "interest" Thought I would share...hope this helps. Hi all - update: I used Cloud 9 by benjamin moore for the walls - it's a gray-based white, which goes with the background of the wallpaper (not yet up). It's very pretty and also goes well with my faux reclaimed wood vinyl flooring. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for the input!!
