paintable wallpaper as a backsplash

With dark cabinets, dark floors, a drab wall color and insufficient lighting it might be a complete disaster. #2 looks downright orange on my monitor, #6 is much too bright and lacks depth, and I've never liked the verdigris look such as in #4 and #5 because it just looks neglected to me - verdigris is a fancy name for corrosion. Fine for the Statue of Liberty maybe, not so much for a kitchen. I like this pattern a LOT though, it's quite different from most I've seen - do you have information such as manufacturer, style name/number, etc.? Our old Victorian's ceilings are trashed now and will be even worse after some other work is done, and DH would really go for this pattern. Not to mention its undoubtedly being a LOT cheaper than either the metal or plastic embossed panels....See MoreUsing wallpaper to line drawers/shelves..Has anyone done that???
Comments (9)Thanks everyone. I am going with anitamo's suggestion of using precut cardboard. Actually I could not find large sheets of cardboard to purchase and did not want to use random cardboard boxes laying around the garage (I have 15 drawers to line so want everything to be uniform using identical materials)...so I bought 4 large sturdy white posterboards from the local office supply store. I am going to cut them to fit the bottom of the drawers and simply wrap the wallpaper around the cardboard pieces and tape on the underside. My wallpaper IS pre-pasted. I definitely don't want any residue or paste to rub off on these brand new bathroom cabinets :) There will not be any clothing or linens going in these cabinets...it will be toiletries most likely stored in clear plastic/acrylic containers within the drawers. I just thought the wallpaper pattern would look pretty on the bottom of the drawers as well as protect them from spills, dust, etc. This post was edited by nutmegxo on Mon, Mar 11, 13 at 16:59...See MoreHelp with Wallpaper, Backsplash in Kitchen
Comments (2)Hi Irish, I think that you may not be getting responses because your post is so broad and without any photos, no one really knows what to suggest. Try posting a few pictures and give an idea of what type of look you are after. You might want to go to the Zinsser website and look at some of their products that would let you paint over the wallpaper or remove it and then paint. I love wallpaper as there are some gorgeous patterns, but it can be quite expensive. Even inexpensive paper is usually more than paint. I just removed two bathrooms worth of paper that was directly on the sheetrock. It can be done! I repapered both rooms, but I had the surface so well prepped that I could have painted if I had wanted to....See Morewallpaper backsplash?
Comments (14)for those that have lived with it, thanks for chiming in! Glad to hear cleaning was easy - at least for vinyl! i will have to think about the transition from counter top to wall. Our counters are butcher block and I'm not sure if i'll do a wood edge, or maybe a row of tile? I'm leaning toward a small wood edge. thanks for bringing that up alexamorrie. spoonflowers looks like a great place with some fun options. thanks for the link. the beadboard paper could be a good option. we are going for a farmhouse inspired feel, so it would fit. i'm just not sure it would make my heart happy like the color of a mosaic pattern. eam44- wallpaper doesn't protect the walls? do you mean particularly at the seams? the field of vinyl seems like a good option to keep water out, but i could see potential issues where it is cut, or meets the countertop/edge banding. are you saying water/grease will penetrate the wallpaper itself? to clarify, this would not be behind the sink. i'm thinking of just doing the wall of the stove, although, i might could be convinced that something should run along the window/sink wall. here's a picture of what we have right now: the range hood isn't in yet, but it will be a closed box, painted to match the cabinets. the trim guy will be putting up molding to close the gap between the cabinets and the ceiling. the sink and windows are to the right. so, from this view, on the left will be a ss fridge, wall of white, backsplash area, to butcherblock counter top. the countertops will be a shade or two darker than the floor. these are good examples of the patterns i really like: thanks so much for the input. mentioning it here does help me get some happy energy back into this decision!!...See MoreSparklingWater
