bathing suit lining question

This is a bit of a delicate question. I bought a bathing suit with a boy-short style bottom and it has a seem that runs from the belly button area all the way down and up the back. This seems causes a umm, sort of frontal wedgie, that I didn't notice before I bought it, as I tried it on with underwear.

I ironed on a denim patch in the crotch thinking that the stiffness of the patch would fix the problem, but it didn't. Does anyone have any other ideas? I would really like to fix this issue because I like the suit, it just needs to be a little less revealing so to speak.

Sounds like a design flaw/poor fit to me - maybe you need a full lining - or wear some panties w/ it....?

I wonder if you are trying to wear it higher than it is made to be worn. Don't pull it up as high & see what happens. If it is made to wear lower, maybe you can add a band at the top. Have you thought to try a thong panty with it? You would gain a couple of layers of fabric in front with less to peek out elsewhere.

I got the second one from Penneys but the part where it is plaid is stiped they were out of the plaid...I also got the skit it is not long at all but makes me feel better to have the skirt on my legs LOL.....DH said as we are taveling home we will stop and look at Penneys and see if I can find the plaid top also as I really love this bathing suit and feel very comfortable in it...Stacy

How important is en-suite bath in master bedroom?

Some people really want/need an en-suite bathroom. Some people would like one, but can live without it if everything else--location, price, other amenities--fits their needs. Some people really don't care either way. And some people really don't want one. So if you buy this condo, you have eliminated the "really want/need" folks from your potential buyers and renters. But you still have a fairly large pool of potential renters and buyers to draw from. If you add the shower to the downstairs bathroom, I think you will make the condo attractive to non-related renters--three grad students, say. Do other units in the building have en-suite bathrooms? If so, then not having one could be a liability. But if there are other units without one, and the building itself is a desirable place to live, then you should be fine. You might have to lower your asking price to draw people in, but that would be the main drawback that I can see.

Thanks for your input. The budget is $25-30K, in Los Angeles. That's about twice what we went into this "wanting" to spend. I'm not expecting to recoup the entire cost, but we're in a rapidly changing neighborhood with rapidly escalating home prices, so it's not totally outside the realm of possibility. It's also possible that we could stay much longer than I think. We bolted the foundation, restored/replaced the hardwood floors, removed/hid the popcorn ceilings, and widened the bedroom closet doors last year when we moved in. We got off easy on the asbestos, but doubled our costs when we found out all of our gas lines and half our electrical needed to be replaced ASAP. So yeah, I'm worried that our 20% contingency cushion won't cut it this time either. Option 2 opens onto the laundry alcove that is directly off the kitchen. I agree, it's not ideal. It is also more limiting in terms of potential future projects like a kitchen remodel. I'm really leaning toward the master suite. Additional storage will come from a built-in bench in the dining room window bay, custom surrounds for the laundry and refrigerator, and--who am I kidding?--probably a larger shed as well. Never buy a house without a garage.

I've had quite a few spontaneously hilarious moments with gal pals when shopping, as well. Those times are precious. There was a time when a friend and I were shopping in a new boutique in Hilton Head and we headed to the dressing rooms with three or four garments each. The mirrors were outside of the privacy drapes. We both exited our little cubicle at exactly the same time....wearing the exact top! We took one look at the other, the belly laughing commenced, and we ran back into our cubicles. It struck both of us as so hilarious (believe me, I appreciate that no one else gets it, lol) that we gasped in laughter, egged on by hearing each other on the other side of the curtain. It took us a long time to get our act together. Stifling belly laughs only makes it worse. That friend is my dearest; she and her husband have been staying with us for several days over the holidays. We are separated by distance now, but make a point to see each other several times a year.

Thanks for replying. It definitely is a design flaw that I think goes with having a seem running the way it does. I don't think that I am wearing it too high though, I don't particularly pull it up. I do have a friend that has experienced the same problem with her boy cut bathing suit. I will try wearing it with a thong, panty lines might end up being an issue though.

If anyone has any more suggestions of modifications that I could make to the suit, they would be greatly appreciated as well.

The only thing I can suggest is putting a band around each leg. There is really no way you can stretch material that is cut too small. Without seeing it I can't guarantee it will work and it's really a job for an experienced seamstress. Any sewing on a bathing suit is, because of the stretch. It might cost more than the suit is worth

Sounds like it might be too small/short thru the crotch. What about taking out the waist "band" and adding a bit more fabric to make the crotch longer?
Try measuring your crotch and compare to bathing suit bottoms crotch measurement.

If the crotch is too high, you can make it lower by stitching in the seam a little deeper using a multiple stitch zig zag and cutting off the original stitching. You don't want to stitch it in deeper in the front or the back, but taper it in around the bottom of the curve, trying to keep the shape of the curve about the same....just deeper. I'd do this a little at a time ...maybe 1/4".... until I got it where it was comfortable. Or you might just want to baste it first to see how it fits.

The stitch should look like this as it will have sufficient stretch to work with bathing suit material.
