Storm door replacement parts

We have double storm doors which were installed by The

Pacesetter Corporation. The door handle and bracket that

holds the stationary door in place are both broken. The

local office in Sacramento, Ca. and their website are gone.

I've checked all the hardware stores and these parts are

very different from everyone else's. I even tried to find the Wartian Lock Co in St. Clair shores, Michigan which

manufactered the parts with no luck. Any suggestions

about what I should do? Need to get it fixed before the

north winds start. Thanks!

If you need to buy sheet aluminum, hinges, latches, and rivets, try Aircraft Spruce. Yeah, I know, it sounds like they only sell wood, but they have other stuff. You might be able to come up with a simple fix. They have a web-site.

Look in the yellow pages for a local storm door/window installer. Alot of times they retain older products from renovations and may have what you need in the scrap/miscellaneous parts bin.

Usually the interior swing door and the storm door are mounted in the same size jamb, thus the same size doors. Front door are usually 36 x 80 and side and back doors are 32 x 80. Once in a while you'll run across a 30" x 80. But those are your most common sizes. Yes it is true, you can measure the interior door and that is usually the size of the storm door. Remember the door sill slopes downward towards the outside of the house and that is what the storm door bottom expander is for (U-Channel with slide in weatherstrip). It is used to accomadate the differernce in the height measurement. The Z Bar is the frame that comes with the door. You get three pieces, the handle side, the hinge side and the top. Its easier to mount the hinged Z bar right onto the storm door white laying on its edge. Be sure to let the top of that Z bar overlap the top of the door by 1/8" for door swing clearance. Measure the height where the door hinge goes. If it is 80 1/2", Measure down from the top of the hinged Z bar and cut it another 1/8" shorter to allow clearnace for the top Z bar to esaily go in - thats 80 3/8". Take note if your Z bar cut should be straight or slanted to fit on the sill. YOu cut the Z bar with a hacksaw. After fitted, mount the door-Z bar combo onto the the brick mould. Just put in a couple of screws for now. Put the rest in later. Now slide inthe top Z bar, closing the storm door over it.Create a equal space (the 1/8") across the top of the door - screw it down. Now measure the the handle side sill to bottom of top Z bar and cut it with the hacksaw. Rule of thumb, always cut the Z bar bottoms and leave the factory edge to the top. Except for closer, hardware and safety chain, the door is in. Oh and don't forget. Always install the door without the glass or screen in the door. Ther're the last things you put in. Wow, schoolhouse - I wish I knew there were different glass options for the Anderson doors. I wonder now what I have. I paid about $400 for the door through National Lumber. I think I've decided to put the storm door on the front. I really appreciate everyones opinion on this, and all the good ideas and things to consider. I agree oopsie, it's so inviting to walk by someone's house who has the front door open (with the storm closed). My dog will definitely be happy. Once it's installed, I'll post another picture. I'm still waiting for the Baldwin hardware to come in, I don't know what the holdup is. As far as the potted plants - seems there are very few mums left; I may have missed the window. Pumpkins will have to suffice for now. Thanks again!

I am thankful for any and all suggestions! I appreciate all views. The new door is an insulated steel door by Waudena, out of Wisconsin. I do open the casements windows on either side of the front window, but if the door is open I can see my Purple Martin colony and part of the garden from the kitchen. I live in North Dakota with -20 to -40 temps common in the winter, howling winds, banking snow, and all sorts of lovely weather. A storm door is a necessary evil. Still, in the brief but bright summer, I'd love to have a "view."

We bought a Cole-Sewell storm door at a going-out-of-business sale at our local hardware store. The store is now gone. When we opened the box, one of the sliding glass window inserts is missing. (It's the self-storing kind.)

Cole-Sewell was bought by Pella a few years ago, and their product line doesn't show a similar door. We wrote to their customer service but didn't get an answer.

EBay doesn't have any replacement windows, and I'm stumped. Any suggestions? It will be a cold winter if we can't find the second piece of glass to cover the open window!

I have an old apartment building which I placed mill finished aluminum storm windows and doors. The tenents damage the window screen frames and doors quite often. I purchased the doors and windows from lowes around 1986 or 1987. The screen frames you get in lowes now are thicker and won't go into the frame. Also A sturdy heavy white storm door was given to me but is missing the sliding glass inserts. Don't know what brand the door is.Am I up the creek with doors and windows???

I realize this post is old but for anyone interested I ordered a latch from Wartian by calling them. They have a one page website, email not working. Sure they are another victim of not being able to compete against cheap parts from China.
