anyone know where I can find a pattern to make grocery bag dolls

Any of the pattern books,simplicity,mc calls,butterick.There are probably some free ones on the internet.Or if you don't want to do a whole doll,just make a tube type one. I have a cow doll one in my kitchen,i made it a while back.they have other animal ones as well,bunnies,bears,etc.

I have checked all the pattern books still serching on the web with no luck.
If you find the cow doll etc would you be willing to share the info? I saw a site that sells the pattern for $23 ...........

but since I am doing this for a charity fundraiser it would take alot of selling and work to make them before there would be $'s make to benefit the charity

Perhaps we could make something else. any ideas are welcomed

Here in Montreal, over the last year, there has been a seachange from disposable to reusable bags in grocery stores. One store started providing high quality cloth (or plastic-impregnated strong paper) reusable bags for a dollar. The bags were so gosh-darned useful that people started buying them and using them not just for groceries, but for carrying stuff all over the place, advertising the name of the store as they went. The other stores quickly got involved, and started competing to make more and more attractive ones, so it was their bag that was being carried, not the competition. The plastic bags are still available for people that want them, but carrying one makes you a pariah on the street. This time last year, you would see hundreds of those bags stuck in trees and streetlights, breaking down in alleys and filling trash cans. Not any more - the combination of real utility (the bags are actually very good - I use them to carry things to work, for luggage, in the garden, lugging tools in my workshop, and for storage when homebrewing), low cost (the bags are printed with the store's name, so it's free advertising) and social stigma seems to have corrected this problem in a very big way. One unexpected problem that has arisen is that I used to use those plastic bags as trash bags. Now, I find myself buying real plastic trash bags, which is a habit I have to break.

My first shredder was a 5 sheet (strip). I developed a work-around for any corrugated too thick to fit. I found that many types of corrugated can be split to make them thinner. In other words, if it's 4 layers thick, then it could be separated to 2 layers (or even thinner). You don't have to be exacting with it, you're only shredding it for the wormbin, not using it for an art project. I also picked up a laminater on FreeCycle. The heating element was shot but that was fine because I wasn't using it as a laminater. The heavy rubber rollers helped to compress anything that wouldn't otherwise fit into the shredder. After 2 years the shredder motor died and I bought a new, 12 sheet strip. With the new 12 sheet the laminater has been retired, but I still try to find the thinnest corrugated I can in order not to overwork the motor. Like I said previously, I only use corrugated cardboard without printing so when I come across a likely candidate for the shredder I will check to see whether the layers can be separated. Using this method I have in storage (both shredded and un-shredded ) a couple years' supply. It looks like the last few are just for storing the bags. The IN-BIN and the ones kris_ma and lawjedi suggest actually hold a bag open so you can use it as a small trash can. Here's the one lawjedi mentioned: The IN-BIN was especially cool because it could hook over the cabinet door or drawer in addition to hooking on its hanger. I kept it on my sink cab door on the inside -- open the door and there's your trash. If I was prepping and wanted a handy nearby trash, just pick it up and hang it from any top drawer. Instant trash bag that you could just sweep stuff off the counter and into the trash (lid was removable). The washable cloth cover made it look reasonably presentable as well. Here's one with a hook that preserves that functionality: but doesn't have a lid, a cover, nor (I assume) any hardware to make a fixed mounting point inside a cabinet (you'd always have to hang it over a door unless you kludge something up).

Sorry I haven't been back, we've all been sick, including DS and grandkids. Lovely weekend. :) But I still had to go to the store because we were out of pet food. Shortest grocery trip ever. Sue, at first I thought you were serious about the kitchen and I was getting ready to throw a virtual tomato at you, then I got the joke and how right you are! lol I like those insta crates. I was thinking about getting a garden wagon for my flowerbed, which is right next to the driveway, but I know DH would steal it to take to the big garden that is quite a way from the house. Those things are expensive. OR...I could hook up the large wagon thingy that goes with the riding mower. :) Great suggestions.

I just pulled my pattern McCalls 9120,then went to their website and checked.Looks like it is no longer available.I have several others by mccalls also and none of them are still available.I do have one pattern mcCalls 7810 that could be used for a bag holder,just by running an elastic thru the bottom of the dress and leaving an opening in the upper back where the buttons would normally go.I have 2 of these,and they have not been used.If you're interested in this,let me know.Send me an email and i'll scan and send you a picture.

I can get 2 out of 1/2 yard of 45" wide material.

Cut the 1/2 yard in half where it's folded on the bolt so you've got a square about 21" wide and 18" high.

Fold in half and sew up the 18" side to make a tube. Serge both ends so fabric won't fray. Put a 5/8" button hole at the top, 1" from the top edge, fairly close to the seam. Fold over 3/4" to make hem and sew down. When you've done this you will have a buttonhole on the outside of the bagholder.

On the bottom of the tube, turn up a 3/4" hem, leaving 2" opening so you can insert elastic. Cut a piece of 1/4" elastic about 12" long. Insert elastic through hem and sew ends of elastic together after you've run it through. Then sew your hem shut.

Back at the top, run a piece of 1/2" grosgrain ribbon 1 yard long through the top. Tie ends together so you can use this as the opening to stuff your bags in and hang from the ribbon. This is the fastest/most economical way to make bag holders IMHO.

You're directions for making the tube is great!

....but this was not the problem. The doll head and arms pattern and directions at the top are what the seniors are looking for. They think it would be a better seller with a doll or animal top rather then just a tube. That this would be somthing people would want to have hanging in their home.

Appreciated your idea and thanks for replying

Well if that is what they need why not adapt a simple pattern....make a head shape circle and do whatever for face and hair...stuff it and sew it to the neck area...arms are just long skinny non stuffed tubes...and the feet...well make feet/shoe shaped as need be and lightly stuff.....adapt a pattern for a rag doll in the right size...heck I'd just wing my own and see what comes out. They are pretty basic shapes....look for a free doll face pattern or doll pattern on google...there are some...the word is adapt I guess...go with what you can find for free and let your creative juices flow. Also suggest you ask at the doll making forum here....there are/were some free patterns at one time mentioned over there. Good luck, these are only suggestions....Bud
