Tips for sewing flower girl dresses

Hello! I have been 'hanging out' in the kitchen and bath forums because DH and I are in the midst of remodeling both rooms. With all this going on, I have to sew two flower girl dresses for a friend's wedding.

The fabric for the dresses is crepe-back satin. Would appreciate any tips for sewing on this fabric so my seams are smooth and the dresses don't look too 'home-made.'

The dresses have cap sleeves, empire-waist and gathered skirt. The mother of the girls thinks she would the skirt to have a layer of chiffon or net, but neither she nor I know how to do it. How would I finish the hem? Should the chiffon be "doubled" and then 'flower petals' or something else be embedded in the layers?

Would appreciate any response because I think I only have a few days to sew both dresses before I "pack" up things in my house.
