My experience with 'catch a call', 'call wave' and MCI

I bought the catch a call gadget on e-bay and with shipping the total was approx $15.00. I hooked it up and yes it was fairly easy and it does give a little ring when I'm on the computer and get a call. I was able to catch the call and after a brief conversation was still connected to the net. However, it takes 2 wall outlets for the computer, phone, and catch a call and I could not stand all the cords across my desk. Also when I got a call the number of who was calling would not show up on either of our phones. This is not the gadget for me.

My daughter keeps telling me that she gets call wave for 17.99 if paid by the year. The calling number shows up on your computer screen and you can pick up on the call if you like. I don't know what else it does but I knew that this was what I wanted. In their advertising they do not mention the yearly price until you click into their system and give your credit card. There was a free 3 months to try it out and decide which of their programs you want. So after all the downloading business it said to call my local phone company and get busy call waiting turned on. Well we don't use a local company just MCI neighborhood plan. So I called them and they said they don't have busy call waiting but offered me "the call Manager" for 3.75 per month. I signed up. By the way, in dealing with MCI you get the Phillipines which is no problem but at times there is some difficulty understanding what they are saying. So I had to call "Call Wave" and make sure they got me out of their system. Another problem understanding the accent. The girl was very insistent that I keep my account and try another free program for 3 months. I could not understand what she was offering me but finally got her to cancel my account. So far I don't know what the mci program is like because it takes 3 to 5 days to get it activated but I"m still wondering about the call wave program for $17.99 per year which is what I really wanted. I e-mailed the call wave people but the reply was nothing in response to my questions but to tell me that my account was closed and to offer me a speed acelerator.

So here I am, stuck with the catch a call gadget, and wondering what the call manager will be like and wishing I really had the call wave and wondering if I really do have what it takes to get the program.

I recently bought the catch a call, and am loving it. The only thing not to like is that I do not know who is calling b4 I answer it. So far it has not been a problem.

If I choose to continue on the call (that interrupted my surfing), then the computer will log off of the net. Once I log back on, everything will be there just where and how I left it.

If the call is brief (like when I got rid of the Gallup poller), I can just hang up and resume my surfing experience.

If my local company offered call waiting caller ID, I would then be able to see on the screen who is calling b4 I take the call.
This is NOT to be confused with the regular call waiting, or regular caller ID.

I Think what call wave should have been telling you is that you need (what Verizon calls) Call FWD-Busy fixed-perm and then callwave gives you the 800 telephone number to you to give to your phone CO. That option alone was an additional 2.25 per month on my tel bill, besides the $17 service order charge to get it set up.
I had Pagoo, an online answering machine...the very same principle as Call Wave, only cheaper if paid by the year.
I found it was giving callers a busy, or a ring no answer, and was not reliable at all. After finding Catch a Call, I won't mess with anything else.

There is no way you can try Call Wave for free. There will be expenses with your phone co in order to get it to work.

I imagine the Call Manager is similar to call wave, but at least you won't have additional pnone co charges. If it does exactly as you want it too, then 3.95 is reasonable, IMHO.

Why not just buy an external call waiting modem? I used one for years before we got the cable modem. Got it at the local Walfart for like 20 bucks it gave me 6 seconds to decided if I wanted to take the in coming call before knocking me off line. NO I didn't know who was calling before answering the phone that was the only draw back to it. But even now I can't get the call waiting caller ID on my phone as my phone company not that advanced yet.

Hi everyone. My name is Katie and I live just south of Germantown near Memphis. We just got our place here in August of 2004 and its my first real house with a yard. We have a yard of about 1/2 acre. We are having the greatest time getting things like we want them. We learned from experience that nothing grows where we are unless we do raised beds because of the heavy clay that was brought in to fill in our lot. We learned how to do them at the spring plant swap last year (2005). We came home and started building raised beds around the house. This year my DH built us 6 raised beds for our vegetable garden. We built them out of 1x8 untreated pine boards -- the cheapest way to go that we could find. We used the wall street journals that I brought home from work to line them with and have begun filling them with bagged leaves we picked up in the neighborhood, last year's grass clippings and some bags of topsoil bought at the store mixed in. We have also lined the spaces between and around the beds with newspapers and covered it with pine straw and it looks quite nice. We still have quite a bit of work to go before we can get anything to grow in the beds, but I have hope that it will be better than our attempts last year. Right now my DH is putting lattice up on some 4x4s we put up last year. We tried chicken wire, but it didn't work very well. We have two muscadines that have come back to grown up on the lattice we hope, as well as a wisteria on the front. We will have to build another one in the far back as we also have two white grape plants that came back. I will share some photos from this year later on for anyone who wants to see our raised beds. I'm not worried about the weather being funky hurting the balance. Because funky weather is part of the balance. I'm just glad we had a freezing cold spell at the beginning of winter. Hopefully that kills off the mosquitoes for next summer. Dirtgirl, why don't you call the DNR and ask them why they took those trees down? I know they can't put them back up, but it would just be nice to know their reasoning. And then ask them if they're aware that now the big guys won't have anywhere to nest there. How cool to see an Osprey.......and then to see it take a fish! We're having a warm spell too. Hopefully this doesn't mean we'll get a bad storm in March. My 2 little carolina wrens are still sleeping at night in a little tuck in the tarp over the front of the chicken coop. One night, only one of the was there, and I was worried. But the next night the other one was back. Speaking of carolina wrens......let me try to post a pic I took last year of some carolina wren babies in a nest in my barn. In fact, these might be the ones sleeping near the coop now. I can't wait to hear those chorus frogs and peepers in the spring. Here's the babies:

Thanks, celtinNE! Same to you. Thanks, plllog; based on that I will skip the runnels and save some money. Any thoughts on the covve dupont edge as opposed to a plainer edge? I also did some stain/etch tests on the samples of marble and quartzite last night. Keep in mind that both were merely honed and not sealed. I tested with ketchup, olive oil, blueberry, sour salt, a slice of lime, and my go-to stain offender, Thai red curry paste. I left them for several hours. Results: EVERYTHING etched the marble and the oil sank in permanently. The blueberry left a faint stain on the honed side of the quartzite sample and nothing at all on the polished side. Red curry paste stained all three samples, but was less noticeable on the polished side. Nothing etched the quartzite at all and the oil did not penetrate. So while I love the marble, I think I am going with the quartzite because it will be under the very unforgiving halogen lights over the island. Besides, it's sparkly and pretty!

Small household pets - canine and feline - are a regular part of the coyote diet in built up areas. If it were me I wouldn't leave the dog or cat unattended and outside in that location anymore - presumably as it was the cat was just about to have its neck or back broken. Friends built an outdoor enclosure for their cats that had a pet door between it and the house, so they could come and go at will. It was maybe about the size of a typical suburban bedroom and seemed to suit them. This was undertaken after a previous cat of theirs was killed by a neighbor's multiple dogs, which I suspect tore it apart - based on what I know of the circumstances. Yet another example of why cat owners are urged to keep them inside at all times. Native predators aren't the only danger to them. To keep coyotes from going over fences of some height you have to put a baffle on top that curves back toward the direction from which they are coming. Awhile back I surprised one that was apparently napping under all the growth in my back yard. It went over a section of wood fence into the neighbors yard so fast and easily I mostly just heard it rather than saw it, knew it was a coyote primarily because one of the neighbors saw it streak across their back yard - and excite their small dog in the process: Yap yap yap yap-yap yap yap-yap-yap yap-yap... I'd have to go look to be sure but I think the fence is about 5 ft. tall.
