Absolutely beautiful! Good job!

I love seeing the pictures, you just can't take enough. Great before and after and it looks perfect with those windows. I see towels, is this in a bath area or was that just for staging? What does the rest of the room look like? More pics?

Makes me sad. We have all these beautiful items from my late mother in law's estate, and some are in very bad shape, but it would devastate my husband and his siblings, if I even thought of painting or re-purposing them.

They are in the garage, collecting dust, but even she covered them! She had all these long covers. She knew they were bad, but ....................

(We have it for sale locally. If it doesn't sell, I'll be very glad to keep it, I have just the spot for it, in our bedroom). :-D

Suzi, thank you! I really don't like painting over certain pieces, either. But had we not bought it, the seller was going to throw it away. Hopefully, it will have many years left to be enjoyed and used. :)

It's always a dilemma for me, to paint or not paint. This one was in such awful condition (the before pics don't show it), and restoring wasn't an option for us.

Your pieces sound intriguing! Could they be restored in some way? It is sad, that they aren't being used, but I understand the sentimental attachment.

I did the Brasso thing over and over and over. Ugh, can't stand that stuff, but it did take some of the grime off. I thought about using Rub n Buff in Antique Gold, still wondering if I should, or leave them with "character". :-D

Did you stencil in the decorative elements ir were they already present? That is a beautiful piece. I have a late 20th century vintage china cabinet that has a faux pecanfinish. I plan to paint it and yours has inspired me.

Thanks, Pesky! I did the stenciling....they're Martha Stewart brand. I used a foam pouncer, and acrylic paint, then wax over. I had to redo one drawer, it was a hair "off", and driving me crazy. :-D

Anele, our garage is so wasted being a garage! The builder put in those two windows, and four more on the street side. Prettiest windows in the house! :-D I'd love to turn it into a den.

I'm a very novice stencil-er. I just tape it in place, use a small foam pouncer, dab off excess, and then dab it on the stencil. I like for it to have a slight texture, and for the color to not be too uniform. :)

Edit to add: I'm terrible at math, figures, measurement, and such, so I have my partner center things, like stencils, for me. That's why my first one had to be redone, because he wasn't home at the time. :-D

Trailrunner, we absolutely love working together, and have always had similar ideas and tastes. :) He's so talented, he used to remodel homes, and does the most beautiful tile and wood work. I'm pushing him to start making furniture himself, he has before, but I end up wanting to keep it all. :-D

It took a little over a week, but only because it needed so much structural work.

If I found a piece that was ready to paint, it would take about two days -- two coats of paint, then waxing.

Your china cabinet looks great! Especially in combination with the arched windows.

Generally, I'm not a fan of painted furniture and prefer a natural wood look, but this one turned out really well.

It's another winner! I thought that was staged in your home somewhere and would never have realized it's a garage. Your staging is just perfect and I'm sure the buyers get doubly excited when they see how great it looks in your 'room'.

I can 'feel' the excitement you convey, and I totally get it! It's so much fun to take something and transform it. I wish I had more time to do things like that let us exercise our artistic side.

Just wanted to say I was looking on craigslist for a china cabinet for my daughter, and yours was one I found. I had to look up this thread to be sure I didn't dream I had seen it before somewhere. Others on here may know where you are, but since I had no idea, I thought it quite the coincidence. I love it, but it won't go in her space or with her table.

Fantastic and creative job on the cabinet. I found one similar on CL and when the rain stops, I might get a chance to work on it. I will be cleaning up the finish on mine.

Nosoccermom, we had it mixed with Valspar, which was a mistake, as it did come out too light. It was darker than it shows here, but not near as dark as I wanted it. It wasn't gray at all, just a dark cream color.

We'll get it mixed at SW next time!

We sold it Saturday, the buyer is going to display some very unique antique pieces from her husband's family in it. She promised to text us pictures. :)

Can you tell me the formula that you used? I was going to order Annie Slone paint. Have you ever used your chalk paint formula on a table top?

My formula is:

2 cups paint
5 tbsp Plaster of Paris
2 tbsp warm water

I mix the water and PoP until smooth, making sure all lumps are out, then add to latex paint (usually eggshell). Mix well.

This is the basic recipe. I've made it thicker, and thinner, by more/less water. I've found that too much water will make the mixture too thin, and the finished result may scratch easily.

This amount goes a LONG way, but will save in a sealed container very well. Or, you can cut it all down.

I'd love to try AS paint one of these days, and compare. But so far, I've been very happy with mine. (We sell our pieces).

I have done tabletops, and posted the results here, but I'm not sure how to search for threads here. We poly some tops, wax others. I prefer a matte poly for protection (usually 3 coats).

Here is one table, it was an extremely damaged 80's golden oak dining table, we did a checkerboard on it:

Well, I have to say that whatever paint color you ended up with --- I love it. Actually better than the original SW color, or more precisely, the way Khaki shows up in my post above on my monitor. Of course, now I can't imitate this "custom" color :)

Nosoccermom, I wish there had been some left, I'd have sent it to you! I am glad now it was lighter, the buyer was specifically looking for that, she might not have liked the true SW color.
