Here's my 36" dish drawer. There's still plenty of room for a couple of casseroles and salad bowls(ignore the cup that doesn't belong there)plus, if I want.

There's another drawer below it that is still empty. My pots are in two 30" drawers.

I don't have any pics yet but my 36 inch dish drawer is located next to the DW and I LOVE it! I lined it with Cushy Cupboards with no other dividers. The plates and bowls do not move.

They came with our Alno cabinets, so we didn't really get a separate price for them. It's been great, though. Our situation is the same as raynag...you can stand in one spot and move the dishes from the dishwasher to the drawer. No lifting overhead, etc. Would do this again, no question.

I'm sorry I have no pics, but I do have this set up as well, and love it! It is SO easy for my little ones to empty the DW and set the table.

I got my holders from IKEA - depending on the size they were between $5 and $7. However, I have found you really don't need them. I have some stacks of dishes that are not yet in holders and they don't move at all. I have soft-close drawers, so maybe that helps?

It's helpful if you line your drawers with appropriate material(s) and/or compartmentalize them like REvans has done. In our kitchen, dishware and P & P drawers are lined with no-slip rug pads, knife & cutting board drawer is lined with cork, and cutlery, gadget drawers are divided. Just keep in mind the maximum weight load capacity of your drawers. A 36"w drawer filled to the brim with Le Creusets may have issues down the line.

We designed our new kitchen specifically with drawers so that DS could set the table & unload the dishwasher! I'm short & like the drawers better than overhead cabinets, which we now use for glass items, including stemware, glasses, pitchers, bowls, etc. Our dish & flatware drawers are in our island, across from the dishwashers, which makes it so handy to unload. We have soft close drawer glides, and I found that lining the drawers with Cushy Cupboard liner keeps the dishes from moving around.

I experimented with the rubber grid material - made to go in the bottom of the sink. I cut it into squares to go under each stack of dishes. It works beautifully. We do have soft close on our drawers, but nothing moves or clatters when the drawers are opened or closed.

paulines, where did you get your pulls? I really like those.

Sorry for the OT, but to get back on topic, ikea also sells mat material for use as liners.

The pulls are from Anne At Home, the Carpe Diem line. I also have 2 types of coordinating crystal knobs on the doors and small drawers. They were purchased from an EBay dealer several years ago ~ hope that helps!

Here's mine. I used the thick drawer liner from Walmart. It's called Duck Something or other. I forgot but I remember the pic on the wrapper. It works really well and is reasonably priced. These drawers are 36" wide.

So no one is using the pegboard system thingy? I have polish Pottery, and I worry it will slide around too much. I love Paulines knife drawers too. Where did you find those?

teched - Plastic ware organization was one of my goals with the new cabinets! I hated the old cabinet where everytime you opened it they all fell out on the floor. If you found the one you were looking for you could never find the lid to go with it. These drawers are definitely the trick. I love them.

Tetched, in my last kitchen, I used a pegboard system in a 36" P&P drawer, but I think the little rubber grids would work just as well.

My dishes are heavy stoneware and I hated lifting them to a wall cabinet -- I loved having them in the drawer and will repeat that setup in our new kitchen.

The steak knives? They are by Sabatier and came in those adorable blocks.

Teched: Mine are the pegboard type. Although I LOVE the dishdrawers, I find the the pegs are not the greatest way. The weight of the dishes pushes the pegs when sliding the drawer in and out. The pegs have never come out all the way, but they need frequent reseating.

I am curious about those of you that have soft close on your dish drawers. My KD, who did a wonderful job on everything, said that dish drawers are too heavy for soft close. I have soft close on every other drawer in my kitchen, except the dish drawers - and I wish I did have it there. However, I was told that adding it now, parts alone would be $180 for EACH soft-close. I have 2 dish drawers, so that would be a total of 4 so $720!
Sounds ridiculous to me.

Anyone have any words of wisdom on this?

I'm so glad I found this page. I'm also a big fan of dish drawers, however the biggest cabinet I can get for my dishes is a 24. Will that still work (at all?) I'm also getting a 30" base cabinet but was planning on using that for pots.

This is so cool looking -- I keep trying to think if there's any downside at all. And the soft close thing -- I couldn't ever see the point of it until I thought about my 8 year old slamming closed a drawer full of dishes . . .

The Blumotion Tandem plus 568H Heavy Duty Drawer Runners are rated at 110 lbs dynamic load, 125 lbs static. The regular 562 are 75 lb & 100 lb. Two of my dish drawers have 568H, one (which actually has the heaviest dishes) has the 562. I can't tell the difference. I have hardly any uppers due to windows, so the dish drawers are a necessity. DH was a little worried, but now that he's lived with them just loves them.

I had a 30" 2 drawer "pots and pans" drawer that I added to my last kitchen and used for dishes. It was my favorite item in the remodel. I put my twelve place settings of stoneware in the top of the two drawers. The drawers were probably about 12" deep. Kraftmaid was the manufacturer and they came with heavy-duty full extension slides that could hold 150#. Thomasville made a similar drawer set that had two drawers with a peg insert. It had an interior small drawer at the top though. In mine I also just put the cushy liner on the bottom and had no problem with dishes sliding. This 2 drawer set up was a must in my current remodel. Showplace cabinets have just added this to their line.
