Craftsman won't open all of the way....

I just installed my Craftsman 1/2hp model 139.18458 yesterday. I have the close limit closing the door perfectly. Unfortunately, the door will not open completely. I need the trolley to move an extra 10" towards the mechanism. Even when released, and operating the opener without the load of the door, the trolley unit still stops short. I the the close limit adjustment at maximum (played with it both ways) and still it will not close all of the way.

These units were still new in packaged boxes with the home I just purchased, they just were never installed.

What am I missing? Is the open limit defective?

On the side of the motor unit you should find the up and down limit controls. Turn the up limit in the direction of the arrow printed on the cover to increase opening.

Wait a minute. I just reread your post and in one sentence you say the door wont open completely and then you say it won't close. Which is it?

Two easy answers. Anytime the door reverses and the main light flashes 10 times it is a sensor problem. There is no way to bypass the sensors.

Let me guess, are you in a humid climate? And it's summer. This unit was probably built somewhere drier, and it has swelled with the summer humidity. I'm not sure you will be able to close those drawers until the air dries out. One solution might be to seal the unfinished wood inside the cabinet and drawers. When it's very dry in the winter and everything fits. That may cut down the absorption of moisture in the summer. Something like polyurethane varnish would do it.
