Glued mirror falls down
Comments (37)Were another story of a large mirror falling. We live in centeal Florida. Our home is relatively new- built in 2017. I was downstairs with my kids when we suddenly heard a loud thump. our latge double sink mirror help up by 6 globa of glue had fallen down ans shattered everywhere. like every one else whos experienced this, im grateful no one was in the bathroom because if anyone was they would have been seriously injured. Im reading rhat mystic glue is standard, but a study should be done because i the cases where the glue fails, real damage happens. the mirror tore a while through an adjacent wall. image what that same piece of glas whould have done to a person, an artey, a bone. This is a deadly failure! it has to be looked into. we’ll be removing the other mirrors in our home and replacing them something bolted and secure. its too scary and costlt not to!...See Morehow strong are wall-mount sinks?
Comments (16)A cast iron sink correctly bolted to framing will stay put with few problems. Many public restrooms still use this type of installation. Lag screws can eventually come loose. Through bolting with large washers against the wood will hold up fine. I usually mount the 2x in the wall, lay the sink plate against it and drill matching holes. The bolts are then put through large washers (or even square of scrap steel about 2x2 inches), then a nut is attached to hold them in position. The bolts stick through the drywall (or cement board and tile) far enough to put nylon self locking bolts to hold the sink to the wall (or the bracket that the sink then attaches to). A couple of 3/8 bolts will hold just about anything you can dish out....See MoreMirror, Mirror; Where on the Wall?
Comments (17)Consider three mirrors -- one over each sink and one in the center -- or an art piece in the center. Two larger mirrors would also work -- or the tower and a single countertop. But first, I would caution you to make sure your "great deal" really works. I think you need to do more than move the drawers -- the shelf is not showing at the same height as the drawer so that has to be moved, you are going to have exposed plumbing unless you add something to the open area, regardless of what side it is on, and the top is going to have to be modified for a countertop (the wood surround for a baby is not a good fit for a wet area) -- and that's assuming that the height is good. Changing tables tend to be lower than counter heights, so I suspect they would be better suited to vessel sinks than undermount. All of the changes risk damage to the cabinet (weakening it or requiring refinishing). I'm not so sure these are going to be the bargain you want them to be. Double check everything. If they don't work, it would be better to discover that before you start changing them so you can still resell them and recoup what you spent....See MoreAttaching/gluing molding to large wall mounted mirror
Comments (25)I did this - I used liquid nails for mirrors, bought at Home Depot. Here are before and after pics. I also painted the vanity and the cultured marble countertop, applied a top coat of marine grade polyurethane. This was done 2 years ago as a quick facelift, it still looks the same, has held up well! We are planning to replace the vanity and flooring next year, but it made the bathroom less ugly for the meantime. As far as how-to goes, I had to remove the clips and shoot some of the mirror adhesive down the back, replace the clips overnight to let the adhesive set (now glued to the wall). Then remove all the clips, make sure mirror is really secure and then glue the wood to the mirror. I used crown molding for the top. I chose to do square corners not mitered because the crown at the top was not a miter join (though it was a mitered cut to look right). Before After...See Moretifflee
