Well, doing a cope cut on the bay windows will eliminate some of the difficulty of figuring angles---but create a whole new difficulty in learning how to cope cut---plus needing a coping saw and some half round files.

BTW, there should be a table in the owners book of that DeWalt miter saw that lists the angles. The problem is whether to cut the molding upsidedown and backwards at an angle. upsidedown flat, or as installed.

Coping is really not difficult to learn, just painstaking to do.

I really don't care for it and believe it to be over-rated.
The booklet that came with the saw only gave the miters for the inside/outside miters.
I know that in the booklets that they use to include with their saws included All of the angles, bay windows too.
That is before they started doing their booklets in English And Spanish though!

If not wanting to cope, the easiest way to cut crown is using the "upside down and backwards" method.

Think of the bed (the flat that you lay the wood on) of your saw as being the ceiling.

Think of the fence (the back part that sticks up vertical) as being the wall.

Place your trim so it sits at the proper spring angle on your saw's bed (ceiling) and fence (wall). The trim will be upside-down and backwards.

Keep the blade bevel at 90 degrees and use the miter only to make your cuts.

A perfect 90 degree corner would require two 45 degree cuts.

Your 44 and 46 degree angles would require two 22 as two 23 degree cuts, respectively.

With a picture being worth a thousand words and a moving picture being worth a thousand stills, I'll save a lot of typing and send you to this video.

Pay very close attention to inside and outside corner orientation, and where the "pointy" end of the crown goes, and try to keep things organized as you flip the trim this way and that.

I don't know whether I am confused or just not making any sense in my postings?

I am able to do crown molding .. whether upside down and backwards or inside out .. I thought that I had made that much clear?

It is the bay window cuts that I am having trouble with.
I am Not new to crown molding and upon saying that .. I am Not a fan of the "Upside Down and Backwards" .. confuse everyone stuff either!

I can show almost anyone how to cut the simple inside/outside cuts within 30 minutes, Without doing the upside down and backwards mumbo jumbo.

I can also do 5 member moldings.

I have just never done bay windows!

To cut the crown "on-the-flat" you need to know the SPRING ANGLE of the crown....That is the angle the crown sits against the wall.....The "in-position" method automatically sets this angle as the trim is placed in the saw......

I reread your post a couple of times and it was confusing to me as to what you could or could not do, and how much scrap you were making in the process.

My apologies for not understanding your capabilities.

So yes, you can do upside-down and backwards with a 22 or 23 degree cut, or you can lay it on the flat, but the miter and bevel have to be figured from, as abnorm wrote, a combination of the wall-wall angle as well as the spring angle of the crown.

If you can do upside-down it's easy.

If you can cut on the flat it's easy using the charts. If the charts don't have the combination of wall-wall angle and spring angle that you need, just use the following formulas and you'll be done in no time at all, especially since you have such a good grasp of how to do it already.

Bay windows aren't always framed at 45 degree angles which might be the case on your project. To get the angle, you can use a bevel square along with two scraps of wood and scribe the angle. Then set it on your saw, line up the blade, and read the angle off of the saw. It's really not important to know the angle at this point really, so long as you have it using the bevel square. Take some practice pieces and cut and fit by scribing in or out as needed. You dont prefer coping, but might still be a better bet as mentioned by handymac.
