Hi there. I'm not sure what you mean by making a floor lamp shine. But in regards to the chairs. To be honest they look comfy but that's about it. I would start by painting the wood part of the chairs with a color you like that goes hand in hand with the color of the fabric or leather. Also a new table to mach the new updated chairs.

Floor lamps--I think the proportions are frequently off a little. A lot of floor lamps are tall and skinny with a small shade. They just look "off" to me.

I have a floor lamp that came with a small paper shade. When I substituted a much larger (and I mean over twice as tall) lampshade, it looked much better.

And people don't always get the right kind of floor lamp. There are reading lamps, which are lower and allow you to direct the light, standard floor lamps to allow general light and torchieres which direct light upward to bounce off the ceiling.

Torchieres are great in rooms with a TV, because they don't send glare on to the screen, but they aren't so good as reading or task lamps.

I've seen people try to use a swing-arm floor lamp, designed to be a reading lamp, to light up an entire living room. Just not going to happen, because of the size of the lamp and the way the light is directed.

And the floor lamp has to be worked into the overall decorating scheme. You can't just plonk one down anywhere and expect it to work. It's got to fit with the proportions of the room, the basic style of the decor and it has to fit where it is needed--a reading lamp by a cozy armchair, a general lamp by the side of a sofa.
