Steel Entry Door Painting
Comments (3)Black should cover very well....why would you do 3 coats? Also, what do you mean that the paint 'peels up'? I doubt that this is a curing issue after two weeks. It could very well be that the Martha Stewart paint is just simply garbage paint. Not only that, black is going to be the hardest color to apply on a steel door with any brand if the paint is latex. If you paint in direct sun or on a hot day, this will just make things more difficult. If you have peeling paint on the door now or areas that were pulled off because the paint has already started to set, then simply applying more paint over this probably will not work....black shows everything....See MorePlain Steel Entry Door + Sidelites - Provia vs. HomeGuard
Comments (4)BpChill - The doors must be painted the custom color mix specified by my HOA. I don't know whether Provia and HomeGuard can do that, or if they can, whether one will charge a lot more than the other to do it. I would prefer the factory do the painting because I think it will be much more durable than if I hired a painter to paint the new door and frames in my HOA's custom color....See MoreJeld-Wen, ThermaTru Fiberglass or Provia Steel Entry Door
Comments (1)No question Provia makes the best doors whether it's steel or fiberglass. I don't think I have ever replaced an old Provia, but I have certainly replaced nearly every other brand including the cheap doors people foolishly buy from hardware stores. I'm kind of surprised you can't afford the painted Heritage Fiberglass Provia Door. It's a little more than the 20 gauge smooth steel, but not that much more. Have you looked at the texture steel Provia? My advice would be to get another estimate from a different Provia dealer. Don;t settle for second best when it comes to your doors. You will never be sorry for buying quality products....See MoreBest Steel Entry Door Options? (DIY Install)
Comments (4)The price sounds pretty good on your quote. I agree with MYM's recommendations, but they might be tough to find for DIY. I think you can still get Thermatru at some box stores. I'd put them under the other choices, but probably the best that you can get for DIY. On that note, have you installed doors before? Putting in a prefinished front door with sidelite that cost a few grand is a little different ballgame than installing a garage service door or a closet door. Not that it can't be done, but its a not an inexpensive or easy item to experiment on....See MoreUser
