Thinking of upgrading interior doors

Hello all,

Newbie here. We're about to start a renovation -- opening up walls between kitchen, LR, and DR spaces. Should make the space much more livable...however, I'm concerned about sound migrating up the stairs and into my son's room. He's a light sleeper. Our interior designer suggested getting solid core insulated doors for the upstairs.

I'm trying to figure out if getting new doors will, in fact, improve my problem. For example, how do I know if my doors are already solid core or not? We live in a colonial built in 1940. The bedroom doors are 6-panel doors, and they look like wood to me. Will I significantly improve sound dampening if I get a door with fancy new technology? And can anyone suggest a great interior door with sound insulation?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Ava
