Well I kept looking and I found this one, which if you used porch posts (the tall ones cut down) you could have a table very similar to the one you posted above, which I forgot to say that I think the pine would look best, though I'm a naturalist at heart.

Why not add a narrow tall shabby chic cupboard to give it some interest. To match that farm table "Just" suggested. You could put the cupboard where the mirror is.

Ah thank you so much justgotabme! My husband is very handy and I'm certain he could make me a table. However, I think I like the idea of having a pop-up leaf giving me the option of making it small for our family meals and being able to seat 10 when entertaining. I sure appreciate it though. I love the looks of the tables in that link.

After looking at your picture again Megpie your not going to have room for a cabinet, scrape that. How do you spell scrape?

Oh no newdawn-it was 8.5 total not including lunch time. AAHHRRGGG!!! I thought about adding a tall narrow corner cabinet (in the right corner) but thought it might look crowded. Perhaps that's a great idea where the mirror is. I will be adding some woven wooden shades to the doors as the built in shades (between the windows) are not holding up very well, and to add some warmth and bring up color from the floor.

I think either one would work well. If you get the pine you could paint it later anyway.

Meg, I totally understand wanting to have a leaf so you don't always have to use a table full length when you have little ones, though I have found now that we have a long narrow (12x20) sunroom, which is where we have our dining table, I love leaving the leaf in when we use our farm table. Right now it's stored and we are using our summer glass topped table with wrought iron base, but I love the look of the long table in the long room. It seems the room looks it's best then.

I should have added our children are grown now.

justgotabme-my husband just informed me there is a guy around here selling reclaimed white maple fence planks. However, as much as I love the look of the tables you linked do you have other table plans that don't have wood going across the legs? For instance we want to seat people at the head of the table and the wood across the legs wouldn't be practicle. I was also wondering if you have links to similar table plans that include leaves.

Rustic pine with a rug underneath!

dfzmom-I was thinking the white might look best with everything else. And since I change my mind about style quite often white always goes. I like the rustic pine but am unsure about it with the wall color.
I will post a couple of pics of our mostly finished kitchen. I need to add some woven wooden shades. I wouldn't mind so much adding a bar to our dining room if our dining room was bigger. I will try to make this short...I copied a Candice olson kitchen. Her kitchen had bar stool behine the cooktop. The counter behind her cooktop arched and my cabinet guy insured me it would work in our kitchen. He was wrong and it was too late to change everything because I had changed the layout completely. I wanted some sort of eat in in our kitchen. Now the one area in our home to eat in is small. Our bar is even too small for stools comfortably. Take your time planning and measure for everything. Sorry the pics are big, I don't have time to edit them!

I also think the white farmhouse table would look best. Not just to "match it" to the white kitchen, but it would look best as a contrast with the dark wood chairs and dark oil rubbed bronze PB chandy. PB's table is a white rustic finish so it will be forgiving...it has an antique white finish if i remember correctly. So it contrast a teeny bit with your solid white kitchen cabs.

I like that your floors are the only "warm wood" component. I don't think the French pine would work, although the natural unstained RH table would work but it would probably be out of your budget.

I think you can do better than either one. Your kitchen is amazing, I would give anything for that size kitchen. I love your chandelier in there. I think you could find a better country french table that would really work better. Or glass top on iron would go with the overall look of the kitchen. Something interesting and not too big. Granite would be nice for a top or ideally a marble or faux finish done right with some glass over it if its faux for some sparkle. Thinking of the chandelier in the kitchen and there's already a whole lot of white, matchy matchy may be boring. What about a color, country french loves painted tables.

What color are your walls? Is there some green in there, or just taupe?

Redroze-I love the weathered look of the RH tables but some of their furniture tends to be massive. A few good things about the PB table is that it is 38" wide, and extends to seat 10. I'm not crazy about the legs but overall it seems to have what I need. If I could find it in reclaimed wood for the same price that would be perfect! Thanks for your opinion about the white. I think different shades of white in a room isn't matchy matchy as much as if it were the exact same color of white and same lines.

Segbrown-Please excuse my mess in the following pic! The walls are camouflage by benjamin moore (never mind the swatches next to the window-and everything is painted now). I actually hired a color consultant and she convinced me to keep it (I wasn't liking it) and to add layers: pictures,accessories, etc. It is a hint green. Here is another shot of it so you can see how it really changes depending on the lighting and the room it's in. I'm not crazy about it in our dining room. I think it looks muddy. Just FYI here is a pic!

I like both tables, but the reason I'm posting is to ask you if you've thought of using a bench on the wall side of the dining room. If you did, you would be able to get more usable width out of your room. You would have to move or swag your chandelier over, though.

Forhgtv is right, a bench (they're easy to build) would be great along the wall side of the table.

I like your dark table. If you wanted to save some money why not add a white table topper to it? I prefer those to table cloths now. Even a pretty table cloth will lighten the area.

My DR is very similar to your's, and my table is kind of dark, (rectangle) and I put a lace table topper on it and it really makes a difference in lighting up the space.

It looks like you have room for a buffet along the wall across from the child's table, which is really cute by the way.

But if you must get a new table, I'd get the white one! The colored accessories on it would be endless!

I don't think an all-white table would look great there. A table with a wood top and white base would be very pretty if you don't want all wood.

Have you checked at any unfinished furniture places? Most of them, in addition to what's on display, have catalogs of things you can order. So you can tell them, I need a table of these dimensions, with these characteristics (leaves, leg style, etc.), and they can show you several available options. You can either buy it unfinished and do it yourself, or pay more and have them finish it for you. The stores around here, the finished option would probably be in the same price range as the Pottery Barn table, but the advantage is that you can get exactly what you want.

I have to agree that I'm not seeing a white table in there. I feel like something needs to be grounded in there, with a darker color. I might check out the pi ne PB table with the Isabella chairs:

The ch airs aren't huge, but I find them to be quite comfy, and they won't overwhelm your space. They'll bring some but not too much black in there. And they're on sale. ;-)

(OF course then I realized that my breakfast area has similar table and chairs, so I'm totally biased, oh well.)
