What do you think of this rug for my DR?

I don't know much about area rugs but I love this one! This is a big chunk of money for me to spend right now. Does anyone know if this priced right for what I would be getting? it's the perfect size, 9x6 and more importantly do you think it will look right in my room? Keep in mind I will be recovering my chairs and as suggested I took the small pic down next to china cab and will replace with a bigger one, maybe another plant for that corner too. Also, the black chair is garbage, bad c/l buy! I don't want to have to return the rug. it is $628.90 & shipping is $62.90. TIA.

oops..forgot to mention the bottom pic is what I'm considering for the chairs and the rug is from Ballard.

Dang, I didn't come back to the thread to check and I've got the wrong piece over the piano! Anyway, I'd think it would be too small for your fp. Here it is at 36x24 over the piano. Too small but you could certainly flank it with a couple other pieces. Then I sized what I thought looked like a good size over the piano, at this room angle. As of now, without sitting on it, I do think I like the third one best, quite large, although that would depend on the fp wall as you don't want to dominate your focal. It does make a really nice vignette with your chairs, and I think it looks really pretty in your room, right on target. So, I'd get it regardless of where it ends up. The frame would be a fabulous price just in itself. I see it's still out there. The tapestry is gone, though. Hopefully you picked that one up. So, even though times have changed already! here's something to look at as food for thought. Oops! And the main reason I ps'd this was to move your chairs! lol. The one on the right, esp, needs to move out and away from the piano more. I'd also shift the fp one to the left a bit if you can. The piano needs to breathe more, and so do the chairs, I think. From the pic and plan, they would still seem close enough for conversation. I also tried to angle the fp one a little more inwards. I do love that ottoman there. Maybe angling the chair a bit would help it to not block the fp quite so much, although overlap is a good thing!

Yes, the photos are all showing up now. I like that green fabric with the rug, but glad you've ditched it because it looks too much like the kind of fabric on the pink sofa (chair?) in the adjacent room. I don't like the idea of gold on the chairs at all, but maybe I'm missing something in the room. Is there gold? brownwynsmom has some brilliant points and I agree with almost everything -- except I still think bees and toile would look good. If you do go striped, they need to be nice wide soft ones so they are not competing with the green and white "crisp" ones in the next room. I wonder how a rich damask would go on the chairs. You can bring home larger samples from Calico. Best way for me to select is take samples of what I already have, and walk around holding them up to the fabrics. If it's a possible "yes" you'll know it. For my oriental rug I just took some colored pencils and replicated the colors of it on a piece of paper. And floor length panels on a big wooden rod hung just beneath your wonderful crown moulding would look good. Nice soft drapey panels.

I absolutely LOVE your house and the direction you're going with your décor! I went from wanting my house to look like a little Mexican hacienda to wanting it to remind me of my holidays in England, and I've dealt with the rug issue myself. While tempting to select something very floral (or even kitsch), I would caution you to keep in mind that true English cottage style is more of a collected abundance of everyday items -- even if it's pared down. In other words, the individual elements shouldn't scream "Look at me! I'm English Country!" Think along the lines of a slightly faded Persian rug that looks like it must have been in the family for years. Too, I've seen sisal and other plain/natural rugs used in English cottages and that's a great look, especially when you desire an open airiness. Think timeworn pattern-upon-pattern, bring in a collection of throw pillows (there are some wonderful Union Jack pillows on Etsy), favorite framed prints on the wall - you know the look, I'm sure! Have fun creating your new space. And please share photos when you get things all done. I'd love to see how your adorable home turns out!

The chair fabric has all the right colors and I like the subtle print. This will be perfect for your room.

I found a rug online too but I will have to wait quite a while before I can afford to get it.

Yes, Im cringing on spending this on a rug when there are so many others things we 'need'. But if I don't do it now I never will and we will be in this 'money pit' a loooong time! Thanks for you help, hopefully I can get this room done. This is my first DR an I'm thrilled to have it.

They look like they will coordinate well with each other and your drapes, but I've found that it's sometimes quite difficult to judge colors from photos on line. If they have a 2 x 3 maybe you can order that and send it back if you have to for not quite so much $$. Or maybe the 2 x 3 can be used elsewhere in your home. I'd want to have a chance to see it all together IRL before committing. If the smaller size isn't an option, maybe you can find out the mfg and check it out locally.

OTH, Ballards frequently has discounts noted in their catalogues. Maybe waiting until they run a great sale might be a good idea. While you're waiting you'll have a chance to perhaps score a perfect buy on CL or Ebay.

On the subject of online discounts.... I was listening to a radio program recently about spending less. The person said that many online retailers customize sales for YOU. For instance, if you have repeatedly looked at a product it will go on sale sale for you, but maybe not for someone else. Anyone know if there is validity to this?

I think it will look gorgeous in your room, but I gotta' tell you I got my rug from CL for $50 and I like the price of mine much better. :o)

abundantblessings-thats actually a great idea and I went back to the ballard to see how much the small one would cost but only the large one is availabe. The do have swatches but not available until 7/7.

debbiemc-My MIL gave us the table/chairs when they retired to FL. All I know is that she bought that set in 99' from a Sears furniture outlet that is no longer in business here, so Im guessing it is sears brand which is most likely discontinued. But I have seen similar chairs out there, I can do web search for you.

It's good to know that so far I have a thumbs up.

Search rugsusa and homedecorators and other rug sites to see if the other places have this same rug because many time Ballard's prices are much higher than other places.
