I love how your room is coming together and those are two great choices - well priced on craigslist.

I hope you don't mind, but I think the chairs are blocking access to the piano bench. Also I prefer the round table between the chairs and not where it is currently located. I would also move the ottoman in front of the other chair so it doesn't block the view of the fireplace. OH no, I'm beginning to sound like Les????? Sorry, but I think you still need to finesse the furniture arrangement a little.

I know i'll need help when it comes time to arrange my living room but i agree about the ottoman blocking your pretty fireplace.

I can't really tell from the picture, but make sure the tapestry looks ok with the paint on your fireplace wall.

I LOVE the oil painting. I agree that it's worth more than $60 for the frame alone! (I like it so much, in fact, that if you buy it and don't like it in the room I'd buy it from you!!!)

I'm not so sure about the tapestry. It's pretty, but I think it might be too much for the room, especially over the piano. I think it would look better somewhere that it stood on it's own. Would it work anywhere in your dining room? Over the bar area?

I'm a little concerned that the painting may look small over the fp. You have one really large wall there. The 36" width of the painting is only going to take up about 1/2 of the mantel width. My two cents: I think I'd look for something wider, unless you're putting up sconces or something above the mantel.

I'd snatch that painting up in a heartbeat. I've been looking and looking on my CL for something like that. If it doesn't look right there, I'm sure you could find a place for it. I'm not so fond of the tapestry.

I did hear back from the seller of the tapestry and it's still available; but no word yet on the painting. I saw it listed last week but it's a 1+ hour drive and I was busy last week so there is a chance it is gone; however it is still listed on Craiglist.

sueb: The size listed was actually the size of the painting. It's encased in a 4" wide frame so that brings it to 44" total width.

teeda: If I didn't put the tapestry over the piano I have a blank wall that you see when you enter the house as my hallway forms an L. I was wondering what to do there, but not sure I want something so formal since it leads to kitchen/family which are more contemporary.

Val, I think that rather than a large piece over the piano, a collection of smaller oils or prints in vintage frames would look pretty. You could even add a couple in nice easels to sit on top of the piano. Cattnap has a real flare for this type of thing--check out some of her wall arrangements.

If you wanted to go with one larger piece over the piano, I would look for something in a long narrow, rectangular frame, placed high enough above the piano that could do some type of arrangment on the top. I've seen this type of art called "yard long".

Hopefully others will add more ideas!

Dang, I didn't come back to the thread to check and I've got the wrong piece over the piano! Anyway, I'd think it would be too small for your fp. Here it is at 36x24 over the piano. Too small but you could certainly flank it with a couple other pieces. Then I sized what I thought looked like a good size over the piano, at this room angle. As of now, without sitting on it, I do think I like the third one best, quite large, although that would depend on the fp wall as you don't want to dominate your focal.

It does make a really nice vignette with your chairs, and I think it looks really pretty in your room, right on target. So, I'd get it regardless of where it ends up. The frame would be a fabulous price just in itself. I see it's still out there. The tapestry is gone, though. Hopefully you picked that one up.

So, even though times have changed already! here's something to look at as food for thought.

Oops! And the main reason I ps'd this was to move your chairs! lol. The one on the right, esp, needs to move out and away from the piano more. I'd also shift the fp one to the left a bit if you can. The piano needs to breathe more, and so do the chairs, I think. From the pic and plan, they would still seem close enough for conversation. I also tried to angle the fp one a little more inwards. I do love that ottoman there. Maybe angling the chair a bit would help it to not block the fp quite so much, although overlap is a good thing!

squirrel: Thanks for posting that painting over the paino. It's actually larger than 36x24 as this is just the dimension of the canvas. The frame bumps it up by 8" in both directions. I'm actually thinking of putting over the fireplace. I've had some problems setting a time to meet with the seller as he works for PG&E and can't get away daytime when I was hoping to trek up there. I hate to leave my family on weekends--as would take 1/2 day and wanted to combine it with picking something else up as well, perhaps check out a few antique stores on that side--was trying to coordinate for the tapesty, but think she's given up on me. To my knowledge, he still has not sold the painting and we're just trying to find a common time to meet, though perhaps he also has given up on me. I'm now considering this console table for behind the sofa--it's a bit scratched up and is walnut and not mahogany, but figured since it won't be very visable and used more to anchor the sofa, it could work.

It's a bit frustrating as these are all up the east bay, over a good hours drive (but much worse if during rush hour) and I would like to just make a single trip instead of going up for just one item.

What beautiful taste you have! I am v. late to this thread and your remodeling project, but I know you from Kitchens ... so I felt I had to pipe in and tell you how serene and elegant I am finding your home. I hope your trek to the East Bay works out because I like both the painting and console for your room.

I'm not going to say anything about furniture placement because I have no idea the fourth wall of this room.

Can't wait to see more!
