What style do you like, or what sort of feel do you want in the room? If you want lots of energy and fun, something that contrasts with the spice furniture color would really pop, or maybe you want something soothing that is more analogous to the spice, just a few shades lighter or darker. Do you want a patterned rug? I would start by finding a rug you like that has the spice and dark brown of your furniture and then see what accent colors it has. Pull those colors for your accessories like lampshades and pillows. Or, use the Color Visualizer at SW; pick a shade close to Haystack (maybe Harmonic Tan?) and see what coordinating colors it suggests. If you don't like those shades, you can drag and drop any colors you like into the sample room, using your spice and brown-black on the furniture to see what it would look like.

If you have pictures of your current room, that would really help the members here give you more feedback.

Why not go with a bold pop of yellow or apple green.

Do you want to colormatch Haystack in another brand? Which brand? Do you have access to RL paint? I tried it last year and it's actually pretty good paint. Used it for my master bath. Plus, you can take your chip to other stores and just get it colormatched. I've done that a dozen times with Ben Moore colors when I want to use Valspar or SW paint.

Or are you looking for coordinates for that shade? If so, just take a painted sample or your Haystack chip, plus maybe a pillow or armcover from your sofa or chair and head out to the store with it. I'm sure there will be reds that look good, some muted greens, as well as browns and black and cream and............well, you get my drift. Think about what style you want in a rug. Are you keeping the look modern and geometric? Do you love the patterns in orientals or all over florals? Look through decorating books and magazines at your bookstore for ideas.

I think you have a great neutral backdrop but now you need some POP color or colors. Maybe a pumpkin or a medium bright gold or both would work for you.

You know a soft rust or barn red would look really pretty with that color too! Love the telescope and bench!

Threegrad; Can,t thank you enough for bringing my pics to life! I agree that there needs to be a "pop" of color. I'm torn between red/aqua blue/green apple. I simply adore green apple or a limey green but, other rooms in th house are green(bedroom pear green and bathroom a muted light green).

Redbazel: I want a color to POP. I also want to hag pictures of family and friend along with some art. Wall space is limited so this is a challenge. I have been looking at rugs for what seems like forever. I have gone to several stores and have searhed hours online. I like modern rugs. I love geometrical patterns, especially circles. I found I also like Leaf prints and shags. My husband is more traditional than I am, trying to please both.

equest17: I'm all "browned out" I really don't want much more brown. I want to bring in some color I want the room to feel modern but with a cozy, comfy feeling, not sterile or cold. We "live" in the hiuse. I've had 18 3-6 year old running around, 20 adults, and on some occasions, a mixture of both. I'm fun (at least I think) and am not afraid of something whimsical or bold.

lukkiirish. Thanks for the compliments. The school desk has been in my husbands family for 60+ years and we love it. Had a post and beam house in NH with lots of antiques..doesn't work well in Fl but we kept a few treasured pieces. Telescope is hubby's new toy. used it the night before and left it by the door. Red is definately a color in the running. I like the way red looks but I seem to be stuck on lime green/green apple. Trying to get many opinions before making final decision.

You know try adding a glass bowl to the dining table full of green apples. See how much you like it. Switch to lemons and then red apples and then to oranges over the weeks. This way you don't have to spend much and you can see how each color works for you. Then eat the apples, oranges and make lemonade.
