tiny 2nd floor hall bath layout dilemma - appreciate additional h
Comments (2)Well, if you plan to do anything at all with the door, you might as well think about changing it to swing INWARD. I have a pet peeve with bathroom doors that swing out into the hall way. Or other rooms. With this one change, it might make a difference with the door staying closed most of the time. And, you could find a little mechanism for the door hinge which would close the door. I have some of those hinges on my kitchen cabinet doors, which are not as heavy or big as regular door hinges, but that is what they do. And I love them. It is also possible to get good quality bifold doors, and I've purchased several of the Pinecroft doors from Home Depot. Online, since they are not in my local store. They also sell the Feather River Doors in bifold configurations, with different kinds of tops and bottoms. Your bathroom is really pretty, love that window and the sink too. Don't think you'd gain much advantage by moving the door and sacrificing your linen closet. You'd be opening up a whole can of worms....See More2nd floor addition
Comments (12)3 bedrooms PLUS a master is way too ambitious for the 1100 s.f. home you have. If you went straight up all around, which may lead you to the box on box look you're trying to avoid, you would have space for a master of around 500 s.f. plus two more bedrooms. If you can pull the mass back from front wall, at least on the right side with the gable, it would help the look. Also, you may want to add a bit at the front or rear to help with the massing, and maybe give you a front entry hall with room for the stairway. Good luck!...See MoreWater in the 1st floor during 2nd floor addition
Comments (3)If there is rain in forecast the structure should be covered with tarps specially when people live there. That said if this is a plastered ceiling and if remained wet for a period of time it could lose its adhesion and fall down (seen that happen even from a small leak) and contractor should take every precaution not to allow that to happen or he will end up with a disaster on his hands....See More2nd floor addition- how broke will we be?
Comments (26)Our last house was a Cape with a similar floor plan. When our kids were little my husband built a wall in the middle of the largest room on the 2nd floor to divide that room into two, one for each of our children (we have a girl and boy about 3 1/2 years apart). They weren't large rooms but worked well for a few years, until my oldest was old enough to be downstairs by himself (we then took down the wall). Just a temporary idea. We wanted to add a garage (our home had no garage) with a room above it and were given a cost of close to $200K just for that (this would have been a one car bay- because there was no room for 2). We then decided to sell that house and are building a house....See Morebus_driver
