Two blocks away from Oyster's Landing Marina in Austin, Texas, sits a friendly neighborhood of gardeners, children of all ages and families who can be seen chatting in front yards over a glass of wine or beer. Welcome to life in West Austin!

"This lovely three-bedroom cottage was in need of a refreshing touch," says Pam Chandler of Fab Architecture. Additionally, her clients desired better storage solutions and more functional family spaces. Chandler achieved all of their objectives while staying true to the original style of the house.
To create a more appealing entry, Chandler had the covered front porch removed, replacing it with a Lueders limestone terrace and a galvanized trellis supported by a Spanish cedar post-and-beam assemblage.

The wall separating the kitchen from the dining room was removed to create one fluid space with a central island. The owners commissioned Chandler to assist them with interior furnishings as well. "In the same spirit as the architectural improvements, the furnishings still kept to their muted palette of grays and whites," says Chandler.
Chartreuse wood floors add whimsy to an otherwise demure interior. The clients wanted the furnishings to look stylish and put-together yet remain family friendly.
The desk and dresser each got a coat of new paint, and Chandler had the vinyl rug custom made by Bolon.
The chartreuse theme runs through the entire house and even extends into the bathroom.

Custom-painted cabinets wear the owners' preferred gray hue. The countertop is white Carrara marble.
"The back porch is a new addition. The rear of the house had previously been defined by a poorly integrated addition topped by a single sloped shed roof," says Chandler. She adds that the cottage's proximity to the marina "really makes the home feel like a lake house cottage."
