My nephew's wedding in SC

We went to my nephew Cory's wedding in Charleston April 30. The site below is the photographers blog of a few of the pictures. It was the prettiest wedding I think I've ever been to. You'll notice there were no flowers in the chapel (St. Luke's). It's very old and has beautiful stained glass windows. The reception was at an old plantation. I wish there were more pictures of the trees--so old and mossy. Just beautiful!

The little flower girl is my niece Natalie. Her mother (Cory's sister) was a bridesmaid. Little Natalie went down the aisle like a pro. You'd think she did it every day and she's only 2!!

Donna that's what I plan to do, I bought kiddie art paper and it feel thinner than the pattern. It's only 3 different arcs. Yep Sharon I'll whip right thu it lol!!!!! I think it will look great scrappy too with the melon the same fabric to tie it together. I don't think it will be difficult but it will be time consuming. I plan to hand applique 'cause my machine applique is the pits. I also have the twister template from an older book. It's cute but I don't know what I would use it for lol!!!! I got distracted by a Christmas tree that is made up of 8&1/2 scrappy blocks. The shape of the tree is 8&1/2 HST with a holly leaf appliqued on them. Really cute!!! Leslie he had a rare bone cancer 5 years ago. He was in the hospital one week a month for a whole year and sick the other three weeks of the month. It was a horrible year for him. He was isolated from so many things for so long and so horrible feeling that he said he would never go through it again. It did save his life and leg, so it was worth it! This doctor is his miracle worker!

Lauren, congratulations on your upcoming wedding! Planning is an exciting time, and it's fun to see everything come together for your special day. Do you have a date picked out yet? If you have a choice, and definitely want dahlias, later is better. I am in PA (zone 6), prestart over 500 plants inside and some years blooms are just starting to come on the dahlias late June/July. Other years they start blooming mid-July. I can always count on lots of blooms early August. Has your mom grown dahlias before? Are there clumps overwintering in her garden right now? Is she willing to prestart tubers inside right now? If the answer is 'no' to any of these questions, then late June blooms are unlikely. If the answer is 'yes,' then you might consider a backup plan to avoid potential disappointment on your day. Even the most experienced grower is handicapped by unexpected weather, which can slow down growth or rot tubers in the ground during late spring rains. It only makes sense to have alternative solutions lined up. Here are two backup plans for do-it-yourself bouquets: preorder dahlias, and/or find a local floral wholesale outlet. The biggest and most consistent place to order cut dahlias is Swan Island, found HERE. They currently charge around $55 for overnight shipping, with $23 per bunch in July. I'd suggest calling them now to ask questions; however, they don't accept orders for cut flowers until May 1st. It is important to talk to them early, as they often have a large field of overwintered dahlias in order to fulfill early orders... I don't know if that is the case this year. Large cities often have a floral wholesale outlet, but some only allow florists to buy, while others are open to the public. You will have to research it and ask around to find out what the options are in that area. I would suggest approaching a few florists, and see if you can order bunches of blooms from them a few weeks in advance, in case all your other plans fall through. Most florists I know would be willing to do that, though some will only do arrangements. The best event planners always have backup plans ready to implement in case the worse happens... make lots of notes, plan for the worse but hope for the best, and above all, have fun!

We live in Charleston, and it is a beautiful place for weddings. My son is a photographer, so he'll appreciate these photos too. It looks like they had a very nice wedding. Best of luck to them!

That was a beautiful wedding. I liked the informality of it with the dad, groom and groomsmen wearing suits instead of tuxedos. That little flower girl is precious.

How lovely, and what a beautiful bride!!!

I really like the outdoor pictures with the Spanish moss hanging from the trees. We lived in Sumter several years ago, and Charleston is one of the most beautiful places we visited when we lived there.

No--I wasn't in the pictures. I was on the dance floor but so was just about everyone else! The weather was perfect--not too hot or cool and no bugs!!

I meant to point out that the pictures of the tree with the yellow and blue "leaves" was their guest registry. They had "ink" pads and the men made their fingerprint in blue and ladies in yellow. Under your "leaf" you signed your name with a sharpie. It turned out pretty and the ink washed right off our hands.

Lovely pictures...Is this a southern thing for the men to wear suits? Have never seen that before.
I think a man looks so handsome in a tux...they don't like wearing them..but they look so nice.

I'll ask Brie, Nanacherie. It really turned out pretty and nobody was there to tell you where you had to put your fingerprints.

Thanks to everyone--I just love my nephew. He was 18 months old when I moved to Florida in 1980. He was a precious little guy and he still is.
