My nephew's wedding in SC

We went to my nephew Cory's wedding in Charleston April 30. The site below is the photographers blog of a few of the pictures. It was the prettiest wedding I think I've ever been to. You'll notice there were no flowers in the chapel (St. Luke's). It's very old and has beautiful stained glass windows. The reception was at an old plantation. I wish there were more pictures of the trees--so old and mossy. Just beautiful!

The little flower girl is my niece Natalie. Her mother (Cory's sister) was a bridesmaid. Little Natalie went down the aisle like a pro. You'd think she did it every day and she's only 2!!

I have done this once and decided not to do it again until I am better equipped. I'll gladly take candid shots and share the results, but it is best if a pro or properly equipped person is there for the 'offical' pictures. There is too much riding on this once in a lifetime event. Problem 1. : The camera equipment. The official photographer should have backup cameras just in case something goes wrong with the primary camera. The backup camera should be as capable as the primary one for obvious reasons. Problem 2. : All equipment should be tested 2 weeks before the event to insure that eveything is in working order. Repair or replace equipment as needed. 3 days before the event, charge all the chargeable batteries. Carry spare, fully charged sets. One good option is an external battery pack that has more capacity than the internal camera batteries. You may need remote and/or detachable flash. Problem 3. : Be prepared to be treated like a inexhaustible photo supplier. There will be several instances of people rushing up to you and requesting photos and expecting to get freebie photos without any thought of paying for those or taking the courtesy of at least writing down the request and supplying pertinent information such as name, address, email, and phone number. You'll be expected to remember everything flawlessly ( it won't happen) and when they do not receive free photos, they may become miffed. Be prepared to handle this situation. You will liley need to carry a note book to record names and relationships of everyone in the 'official' photos. Getting the names correct is important. This data has to be collected on site. Trying to construct it later is almost impossible. In fact, it would be best if you had an assistant secretary to record the shots and all data. That way, you can concentrate on the mechanics of photography. Be hard-nosed and keep in mind that these photos are for the bride, groom, and their immediate familes and no one else. Stay focused. There will a few drunks who will make outlandish requests. Problem 4. : This is a once in a lifetime event. There is no second chance. Be professional. Problem 5. : Cost. You are probably being asked to do this for free - resist unless you are prepared to forgo renumeration as a wedding gift. As you can see, it will require an investment to do the job right, and you should have a helper or two: one to be secretary and another as an equipment guy. If there is reluctance to pay you for your services, then you will know the score and I'd recommend bowing out. Family relationships are too fragile and important to ruin.

Donna that's what I plan to do, I bought kiddie art paper and it feel thinner than the pattern. It's only 3 different arcs. Yep Sharon I'll whip right thu it lol!!!!! I think it will look great scrappy too with the melon the same fabric to tie it together. I don't think it will be difficult but it will be time consuming. I plan to hand applique 'cause my machine applique is the pits. I also have the twister template from an older book. It's cute but I don't know what I would use it for lol!!!! I got distracted by a Christmas tree that is made up of 8&1/2 scrappy blocks. The shape of the tree is 8&1/2 HST with a holly leaf appliqued on them. Really cute!!! Wedding Gifts: Give both wedding & shower gift?

if you weren't invited to the shower, you don't need to give them a shower gift. If you DID go to a shower, you would give both, as you know. If you wish you had been invited to the shower, you *could* give them a shower gift, but I wonder if that might make them feel bad for not inviting you--in which case, don't label it a shower gift. But the wedding gift alone is just fine--and I bet they'll like it, LOL! it'll certainly fit w/ their decorating scheme.

Marie~I love the layout of the colors!! How could I not?? Thank you:) What did you use for the backing? I opened this thread on my iPad & your quilt is absolutely gorgeous on that screen and I said, those are 'my blocks!' then I read further. I am flattered that you liked my BD block & color choices to make such a special quilt. You really have made my day! I agonized over choosing a block & the colors last year-it was my 1st BD blocks to participate, and I really did not know how or what to choose. This is what makes joining in the BD Blocks so great (not to mention the fun of receiving blocks!). Good Luck in school - and thanks again! I hope they love it.

We live in Charleston, and it is a beautiful place for weddings. My son is a photographer, so he'll appreciate these photos too. It looks like they had a very nice wedding. Best of luck to them!

That was a beautiful wedding. I liked the informality of it with the dad, groom and groomsmen wearing suits instead of tuxedos. That little flower girl is precious.

How lovely, and what a beautiful bride!!!

I really like the outdoor pictures with the Spanish moss hanging from the trees. We lived in Sumter several years ago, and Charleston is one of the most beautiful places we visited when we lived there.

No--I wasn't in the pictures. I was on the dance floor but so was just about everyone else! The weather was perfect--not too hot or cool and no bugs!!

I meant to point out that the pictures of the tree with the yellow and blue "leaves" was their guest registry. They had "ink" pads and the men made their fingerprint in blue and ladies in yellow. Under your "leaf" you signed your name with a sharpie. It turned out pretty and the ink washed right off our hands.

Lovely pictures...Is this a southern thing for the men to wear suits? Have never seen that before.
I think a man looks so handsome in a tux...they don't like wearing them..but they look so nice.

I'll ask Brie, Nanacherie. It really turned out pretty and nobody was there to tell you where you had to put your fingerprints.

Thanks to everyone--I just love my nephew. He was 18 months old when I moved to Florida in 1980. He was a precious little guy and he still is.
