Wonderful update on my nephew Alan...long!

Alan's cancer doctor that he had for his first bout with cancer talked him into going into the hospital and letting him run some tests and try to help him. Alan had pretty much gone home to die after he was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer a month ago by the doctors at the county hospital. He was strongly against anymore treatments only to get a few more months of life with no quality. His doctor really took a liking to Alan for the 2 years that he treated him and saved his leg from amputation. He got the test results from the county hospital where Alan was flighted to and told Alan that he needs to get into the hosptial asap, that he could have a stroke at any minute and drop dead. This was Friday night. Alan told him "no" he just didn't want to go through the chemo and feeling sick for so long again to have a few more months to live. The doctor convinced him to think about it and gave him until 11:00 last Sunday to admit himself for a second opinion. Alan did go in and they ran a bunch of tests, had some specialists come in yesterday and tonight he found out that he never had cancer in the brain, it was a blood clot and it can be fixed. He does have cancer somewhere in chest (I'm not sure where) and the doctor is very optomistic that he can get it all! We are all so relieved. I was praying for another miracle for him....I think we got it! I am so amazed at how wrong the first set of doctors could be..and furiuos too. The mental stress was unbearable...and unnecessary! I always say to go for a second opinion! Just wanted to share my good news!

Hello, Lovely Ladies-I can't believe I took care of all this yesterday , "pushed Submit" & received the message- After an April date you can no longer sign in with your GW name, etc. I couldn't believe it. There were lots of Iris unamed, too. I am sure I have missed some & miss spelled some but what a selection! Thank you so much, Maryanne-I am going to try & keep them marked as from you & will be able to remember you when the start blooming! You really made my summer a delight watching these great plants. Oh Beth--She has such a sweet face-and I'm sure she is so thankful to have a 'mommy' that will take good care of her-does she like to ride? Alli went everywhere with me- I am glad you have a companion--she will take care of you and be always on your side--and I won't have to think of you being alone!! Remy--I would like some rudbeckia--I manage a 30 year old 96 unit apartment complex that has been ignored for years--so I am planting things everywhere I can to 'perk' it up Carol has sent me some purple iris and Maureen sent dahlias and daylillies--Beth has been sending seeds every month-from a different swap-so it's starting to look up around here!! Hi Norwega, My sister has 3 teenagers, is a single mom, so finances are tight, but she has never learned to manage her own money well. Your sister's kids will always (and HAVE been) watching her values & habits. Will SHE be willing to read and/or listen too CDs/Tapes to break her established patterns and re-learn new habits? If not... the kids are not likely to do anything different UNLESS they are doing so in DEFIANCE to Mom... Her middle son seems to be following in her footsteps, wanting to have things before he has the money. He's in basketball, which will hopefully result in a college scholarship. I'm looking for recommendations on books or other that our mom, his gramma, can work with on him on learning finances. Character is the underlying issue in finance. Far more so than any mathematical principles. If he's REALLY strong in Basketball, I recommend 1st getting him addicted to the focus on Principles by giving him "They Call Me Coach" by John Wooden (the winningest college dynasty basketball coach ever in history.) I wish your SIL all the best and it sounds like she's on the right tract. Folks have shared some good info here. Still, if you can, convince her to leave the county/state/area; she will be safer the further away she is. An order of protection is a piece of paper and just as protective. Hold up a piece a paper and see how many punches you can take through it. They don't stop bullets or knives, either. I was hospitalized from the injuries I received while under an "order of protection." It's hard to up and leave and start all over somewhere strange. It's hard for women with children to have to go assistance, or learn to be all alone while getting back on their feet. But it's far easier to do these things than to be dead.

that certainly proves you should never give up (and NOT to believe the Drs know everything). I hope his surgery goes well and the chest cancer is fixable. Continued prayers

I do believe in miracles.....he just got his! He has had 2 really so far...his leg was to be amputated 5 years ago and a second opinion from this same Dr the day before his surgery saved his leg! I'd love to give this Doctor a huge hug right now! I am just shocked at how wrong one doctor can be...they even gave him 6 months to live. Said the cancer was all through his body! I'll know more details today after I talk to my sister, but this has me shaking my head in so much confusion!

Oh that is great news. I'm so glad that he decided to go in. I don't know how long ago he had cancer the 1st time, but I know they have a lot of new things/meds to control the nausea. If taking it once a day doesn't control it, Nathan takes it twice a day.

What wonderful news to hear about on the KT today!! I do believe in miracles, but sometimes need to be reassured. And your post has just accomplished that. Now on to a return to complete health for him.

Leslie he had a rare bone cancer 5 years ago. He was in the hospital one week a month for a whole year and sick the other three weeks of the month. It was a horrible year for him. He was isolated from so many things for so long and so horrible feeling that he said he would never go through it again. It did save his life and leg, so it was worth it! This doctor is his miracle worker!

Alan has been and will continue to be in my prayers. What wonderful news!

If the blood clot was that bad, it's a wonder the stress he was under didn't cause a stroke already! And while I am sending prayers for Alan, I am thanking God for this great dr.!
