Of the options, I like door #1. Oval front doors scream "early 90s" to me for some reason.

Honestly, none of them. The oval fights the windows on your amazing home, and does say victorian to me as mentioned.

The first door's lines feel much too modern.

The fussy glass designs don't seem classy and elegant like your home.

I do like the door color in number two, and think that would be wonderful on your home.

I guess I would be looking for a door with an arched-top glass, to echo the shape of the window and stonework above it I would want some glass that would afford some privacy, without all the fussiness and caming.

Also wonder if you have considered a double door instead of the single with sidelights?

Hi Les, can't do double doors, only a single door will fit.

I am ok with the cut glass affording privacy. Right now it is plain glass with a sheer curtain behind it. And I don't want to block the light really. It faces west and we get a lot of afternoon light from it which I like.

Do you think the style might not be traditional enough?

I love your house! Have you considered a simpler style/solid panel door with side lights, it would be beautiful with your current arch transom and all the windows on the house. I found a few doors on houzz.com that you might want to look at. I like the look of a solid door when a transom is above to break up all the glass. Just something to consider.

You need a simpler, more classic style with no swirly styling at all. Keep it clean cut but not modern.

I'd go with something similar to rtwilliams' links, above: traditional, classic, unadorned.

Well, I would prefer a plain privacy glass rather than the swirly iron work, but couldn't find anything quickly that still had the arched shape. Perhaps with some bevels in the glass but no caming, and simple. I am sure a solid door would look nice as suggested, but if you really like the light coming in through the door, then don't give that up.

Have you been to the Door Store? They have a store in Villa Park, not sure if they have other locations. They can create practically any door you want, great service and installation.

My first choice would be to remove the sidelights completely and install two wider doors in mahogany (or reasonable facsimile) with the dark ironwork over glass. That's the big new thing here, getting rid of sidelights. Who knew? I wish I could afford to do it at our house. I don't like those sidelights at all and it makes so much trim around the front door area. That would be "my" first choice but you have some pretty options there : ) I like the first one best. I like rtwilliams' suggestions as well. If having some glass in the door is a priority, have you considered a solid panel door with an array of divided lights in the top half? I did see that configuration as an option on the website of the therma tru product.

I forgot to add when suggesting the popular door remodels in our area where the whole front entry is removed, sidelights, single door and transom, that when they remove the sidelights they also remove the transom if there is one. The whole entry is replaced with taller wider double doors. I don't think I see a transom on your front doors. Sorry about suggesting that! Hope you find something you really like. I agree about a solid door w/sidelights. Mahogany would be beautiful.

If you want to let more light in, switch out storm doors with the kind that are a darkish/mahogany color which has hidden screens. The storm door blends in with the wood door, and this way you can let light and air in the house, and if you have kitties or dogs, they can't reach the screen!

I can't see the door of your house in the photo, (my eyes are not so good) but can you just replace the glass in the existing door with frosted glass?

Like the color of door #2, but another vote for a simple, traditional wood door with sidelights. The ones in your post all look victorian to me and don't fit the look of your house. If you get a good quality door, do you need a storm door?

I agree, less is often more, as rtwilliams showed. But If you like the swirly styling but want a more contemporary take on it, why not go for a full door of glass with inset wrought iron detailing. Black or deep brown on the detailing and surround. And that detail also comes in geometrics, which I prefer.

girlville, that is exactly what I was referring to in my two previous posts about removing the sidelights and transom and installing wider, taller doors thus eliminating all that trim around the door, sidelights and transom. I think it's a much cleaner/richer look and your example would be perfect for the OP's home. It would be the perfect traditional/modern look for this style of house.

The OP has already responded to my suggestion of getting rid of the sidelights and doing a double, and said she can't do double doors, they won't fit, only a single. I certainly agree that it would be a great solution for the door issue.
