From what I can tell, I love the table and the chairs. You could use a more casual fabric that blends with the rest of your decor. The price looks very nice too!!

I had a similiar set that I painted and it turned out great.

I searched "dining" on your CL site and came up with lots of sets.

It is a nice-looking set, but the lines of the chairs feel formal, for sure. Changing the fabric wonÂt change that, and might make the whole thing feel disconnected.

I would keep looking.

I like set #1 better than #2, but it depends on what else you have going on with your decor--

Ohhhh, for $200, I'd snap up that first set and get busy with the upholstery. I really like the shape of the chair backs! If you found something in a store today with similar chairs, the chairs would be absolutely MASSIVE in the way they've become so big to fill up the large rooms of the newer big big big houses. Does that make sense? These chairs have a definite presence, but they don't overwhelm you with their size.

We bought ours new in late '70's and it even looked like the same gold fabric. I just pulled up one of our pics that shows the chairs, (recovered). Just gotta say, over the years we've served one heck of a lot of dinners there and the one thing I can remember is sitting and visiting after dinner. Those big chairs with the upholstered backs were so comfortable that nobody was anxious to move. (That's Thanksgiving leftover night judging by the serving containers and dog. I don't usually serve out of plastic. :))
