Need help w/ frameless glass shower enclosure

Anybody knows the proper installation of a frameless shower enclosure? My steam shower measured 6.5 x 8 ft with a 30" door that swings out. The fixed part measured 4x8' and the installer just glued this piece of tempered glass weighing over 150 lbs with silcone (contact on 3 sides) without any type of hardware. Is this right? It looks really nice but it doesn't seem very safe. I would be afraid to lean against it.

Any advice is desperately welcome.

I have a framless shower door with steam. I had a chanel carved into the stone frame around the door. I bet you won't pass inspection. This doesn't sound kosher.

Did you discuss ahead of time how this was to be done? What material is around the glass? What's to keep the glass from moving if someone leans on it, silicone? I'll bet the contractor tries to tell you that it just fine. If you find out if it's against building codes, then you could have an inteligent argument with him.

Ill tell you some of the problems that I had with my installation. The stone I used is "Rosa Verona". It's a particularly soft stone. The company that installled the stone said that it broke during delvery 2 times before they were able to install it. It finally worked out ok.

I went with a glass company in the area that is the oldest and has the highest prices in the area. They came to measure when I had the three sides up (the groved stone). The tile setter purposly left the top, untiled. They inisted that all sides be done before they measure. My tile setter scrached his head, but they were very experienced and wouldn't be questioned. When they came back after the top was tiled, they realized that they had no way of getting the glass in. I finaly had to have someone carve out the tile on the top in order to insert the glass. It would have been SO much easier to just tile up to the glass on the top after it was slipped into the groves on the sides.

My niece turned and walked into our tempered patio doors and broke the glass. She wasn't moving quickly or running. Fortunately only a few pieces of glass fell, although the entire outer pane fractured into a spider web. She was not hurt other than a bump on the head and a small cut.

Thank you all for your comments. This is my 4th new build but my first custom. I've never seen it done this way, but the GC assures me it's not a problem. Not how I would have done things. When we met with the glass guy last week, we were told that the install wasn't going to take place until after. We are in a crunch to get this house finished and closed on by the end of February, so that may have been why GC gave the go ahead to install. The builder is funding the project so if something happens to the glass, it's between him, the glass guy and the tile guy. I guess in the end what matters is the finished product as Joseph Corlett said and if it doesn't look right, it'll be a punch list item. Even though it'll be more work for the tile guy, it makes me feel better hearing from others that at least it's something that can be worked around. Again, thank you all for your comments.

We lived in Tokyo for a few years and one of the bathrooms in our apartment had a bathing area wet room. I think they are pre-fab kits, like a room within a room with tub and shower area and a door that seals tight with a gasket. There was a step up into the wet room. Luckily, I also had a daily housekeeper that cleaned whatever mess the kids made in that wet room! Imagine a bubble bath that can spread outside of the tub ... the kids loved it! Rest of the bathrooms had regular tub/showers.
