We Met with the Doctor Yesterday

The Doctor called a family meeting.

The pathologist has been scrutinizing the biopsies and he has determined that Mom has a slow-growing cancer in her soft tissue. (The mass that she has had for several months).

He's one of the 4 top soft-tissue cancer pathologists in Canada, and he asked for a second opinion just to be sure.

This whole medical issue with mom has them all perplexed.

The soft-tissue won't be cut out, as it's far too risky since it's attached to her other organs. It won't respond to Chemo, so in order to attempt to get rid of it, radiation is recommended. But given mom's weakened state, that isn't even an option.

She's still in hospital, getting her strength back. She developed an infection from the Pic Line (intervenous feeding tube) and they put her back in CCT (ICU) Sunday. She's feeling good and anytime a doctor, nurse, urologist etc asks how she's doing......she replies Fine, when can I go to my room?

She's still fiesty!

The major concern is that she's not eating and drinking enough. My brother was after her yesterday to eat and drink, if she wants to get out of the CCT and then out of the hospital.

She insists that she's not hungry.....after being on liquids for so long, she has no appetite, and it takes very little to fill her up.

Whatever the reason, she ate a couple of bites, drank a ginger-ale and some tea. Since that isn't nearly enough they are re-inserting the pic line today.

The doctor wants to bring her back to our home city hospital. She can gain strength there, and be closer to family. In the event where any surgery or anything untoward happens, she Will be brought back to his hospital. He doesn't want anyone to undo all the things he's done.

So the overall consensus is that they don't want to do anything to try and get rid of this cancer, in the event that anything they do will lesson her quality of life, or shorten it more. It's very minute and slow-growing albeit it is cancer.

She'll be brought back to the home hospital, and get well enough to come home. Hopefully by the end of this week.

So that is the goal.

Her spirits are phenominal. I don't know that I could be as positive as her in that situation.

She's such a good patient, one of the nurses from her other floor brought in the first rose out of her garden and put it in her room. One of the male RNA's (I guess) really likes her, and one evening there was such a beautiful sunset, he came into her room specifically to wheel her bed over to the window and raised the head so she could look out and see it. That brought tears to my eyes when she told me.

We'll get her home and up and around yet!!!
