You all are having much better luck with the mails that I did. When I went on holiday I use to always do little watercolors, postcard sized, with message, address and stamp on the other side, to send to friends. I quit doing this about 5 years ago, when for the last couple years, less than half of my little painted cards arrived! I wouldn't dream of putting something 'cute' that had taken a good bit of time to make, like the quilted postcards, in the mail without being in an envelope.

I'm very fortunate because one of my local post offices has a wonderful group of postal workers who LOVE quilted postcards. They hand stamp each one and look forward to each one that arrives by one of the guild members. (lol...they are on a first-name basis with many quilters who frequently send these!) So far, all of the many postcards have arrived at their local and out-of-town destinations...and we have been doing this for almost a year. I guess we are very fortunate; our postal workers do their job honestly and well.

I'm afraid I'm on Sandra's side. Our big city processing isn't nearly as postcard friendly. I'd use a small manila envelope myself. I could always leave it unsealed to show my favorite postal worker before sealing it. LOL

Bob, my thinking is that it'll likely take two, maybe three days to reach any destination in the US if mailed first class. Since the PO doesn't deliver on Sundays you don't want it to get delivered then- better to use Sunday as a transit day. That way if there's a delay en route you have an extra day or two for it to get sorted out. So I prefer to mail going into the weekend rather than coming out of it. But in practice I'm not sure it matters too much. Most of the packages are going to be pretty cold over much of the time anyhow that time of the year! I'm guessing that most nursery shipments don't go first class (mostly UPS?), but it doesn't cost more that a buck or so for one of us to mail something that way, and it is pretty fast.

Big thing with shipping is keeping the root-ball intact. Bare root is tedious as it gets bashed around & can get wounded.. I always ship them in the pot (pots are cheap) packing newspaper in the top then taping it all down.. Then taping the pot into the box. Fill the rest around the vine with peanuts.. And any shipper will do. I've found the 8" x 5" x 6" "flat rate box"es turned inside out (so it ships for less than the flat rate) work Awesome. Then 'course don't ship when it's Arctic & you'll be fine. Might be a bit tedious for the receiver to un-do all that tape, but worth it for an intact plant.

Zep, I downloaded Windows Live again and all the other programs that were listed there. Now everything is working again as it should. Maybe my Windows Live program got corrupted some how and that caused the problem I was having. Thank you. Kudzu9, Photo E-mail re-sized the photographs to thumbnails (230mb) prior to sending but they still never left my computer for whatever reason? That has cleared up now with Zep's linked and downloaded programs. Ravencajun, It must have been too early for me this morning when I sent in my question. I should have said, Drag and Drop, not Copy and Paste, sorry about that. Thank you all for your responses and help. "Horton"

My own mailman is a doll, but he is only the first step when something is sent by me....just as your local post office is just the starting point. Anything you or I mail locally is certainly 'touched' by many more hands than those at our own post office! Our local mail station is only the first step, between where things are sent and where they, 'hopefully', arrive. Think of all the possible opportunities for someone to just 'stick' it in their pocket...and, as with my post cards, they certainly WERE taken by someone, somewhere along the way. You are very lucky that your postcards have all arrived...but, I still wouldn't chance loosing something when putting it in an envelope could prevent it!
