Comments (5)i have always admired ...no, absolutely LOVED your first inspiration photo. it's maddening how lovely that kitchen is! so, yes i think it would look great. i'm wondering about the rest of your appliances. do you plan on a stainless fridge? i've always yearned to see MORE of that kitchen since we can't see the appliances but i suspect the fridge is most likely paneled. i think i'd do a panel instead of ss, especially since you plan on pulling out the cream on the cooktop. i get the whole utility thing, but that kitchen is clearly placing priorities on appearance. not that there's anything wrong with that. did i mention how much i LOVE it?? i'm doing white/cream (whatever!) w/marble counters and a stained island (marble top as well). the floors will be a rich walnut. i'm still trying to figure out if i'd be able to pull something like this off! i'll be watching with baited breath. good luck!...See MoreRecs for medium, brown stains on red oak? Comments (19)The carpet sample is our carpet, and the white board represented white baseboards. I LOVE Special Walnut, but it was a smidge more golden than it appears here, and I had to consider that it would yellow more with time. 50/50 Dark Walnut/Weathered Oak is our choice (the bottom one), and I love it too! I'm nervous and have been second-guessing myself all day, but I haven't called them to change the order so I think it's sticking! They stain tomorrow! It was a hard call and it didn't help that one was my favorite at night but I liked a different one in the morning light. Trying to remember that however it's stained, it's a beautiful, neutral background for the thing I already love - furnishings, fabrics, etc. I'll post a picture next week when it's all done. White cabinets are on my wish list, but that won't happen for a long time....See MoreHow to design around a warm brown stove?
Comments (15)@nicoletouk Thank you! Those examples are lovely - I hadn't thought of cream but that second kitchen is making me think I should look into it. And I had never heard of Samplize. @Michelle K @Susan L I actually think I kind of like the brown? We went with it because it was a really nice line of stoves we would never have been able to afford at full price, but I think I can make it work nicely with the right color combos - and I feel that the brown actually flows in our house where we have a lot of dark original woodwork. . There are no parts to change the color, but I also don't think it's pulling me away from other things that I want necessarily. It did force a choice on the dark countertops, but I'm pro light counter as well. @latifolia Thanks for the feedback! You're right on the paint. I guess I'm not sure whether the finish on FB is actually worth the price tag - I know they have better color depth than most other paint lines, but I've heard good things about the cabinet paint that Valspar and BM sell. And I'm avoiding granite because I honestly just dislike the look - I've never really met a granite that didn't look busy in a way I find distracting. Additionally, our house is historic and has all of the original woodwork, windows, etc - we are trying to reno this kitchen redone in the 90s to better fit with the house's age and character, and to me that means using a natural stone like marble or soapstone....See MoreHelp?! How to get Honey Oak to match new cabinets??
Comments (22)@millworkman Honestly, that might not be an option given the high number of people in the same position I am in. Much like the attempt to get a restoration company (where you get an answering service, are lucky to get a call back within 24 hours, when most reviews say they were out in an hour or less... some have messages saying "we cannot help anyone new we are backlogged"). I also don't know what it would cost. I'm hoping with the massive disaster, the adjuster will be more understanding. It doesn't help my husband is a salvager by nature and doesn't see the point of destroying things that are technically fine. (sigh) He feels keeping the upper cabinets is perfectly okay because he just wants it done and surely they can make it match... @latifolia Getting a lot of estimates right now is also challenging, as most good contractors were already busy with people remodeling due to COVID and low interest rates (and no homes on the market to move to here, I think inventory is 40% of what it usually is). Adding tons of apartment buildings, hotels, and schools that were damaged, along with all of the homes means you might be waiting a long time to get someone to get back to you, and the last thing I want is one of those contractors that works one day a week and rotates between 6 jobs or something (I have heard horror stories of that) because at least now my kitchen is somewhat useable, compared to when it is fully emptied for whatever we have done....See MoreRelated Professionals
