A soft gold would be the perfect color. 1) the color will go with all of your furniture; 2) The gold will bring some sunshine into the basement. It is neutral enough so you will not get tired of the color. You could do an accent wall of a red shade or paint columns red.

We have a basement/media room with absolutely no natural light. We used SW naturel and find it to be the perfect color. It plays as a soft green and compliments our deep green patterned billiard ball rug that has red, blue, yellow and orange colored billiard balls all over. Hope this helps!

I love the gold idea, we have Behr Warm Muffin and love it. But since you both have colors you're interested in, another thing you could do is to use the red (or maroon maybe?) on an accent wall or as a paint feature like a thicker horizontal stripe, then both of your colors will used on the walls. Also, if you decide to do the stripe, it can also work beautifully as a great backdrop for pictures.

Ellen Kennon's honeysuckle probably would work very well. I don't have a link to it, but if you google it, you could find it.

Look at the gallery part of this home decoration forum under the favorite golds and yellows. Besides Honeysuckle there is EK Mustard Seed and Gingerale.

Scoutfinch, I messed up...I didn't want to suggest you put a red stripe or accent wall with the gold. You mentioned wanting a more neutral color and I'm suggesting you put a red accent wall with that.

I think a deep red would make it feel cavelike and that you want to be in the straw/gold family.

I really like warm, rich colors in rooms with very little natural light. That doesn't mean you have to go dark, but something saturated is always cozy. I think the gold idea would be really nice. I love the SW chip 18 with Whole Wheat, Camelback, and Baguette on it. The chip might look more tan or brown, but on the wall it's a warm livable gold without any orange undertones. The whole range on that chip seems very easy to work with. Any of them would coordinate well with a nice red accent color.

lukkiirish - I followed you, I think! Red accent with neutral, not red with gold! I like the idea of the stripe and will have to see what dh thinks of that after what we discussed last night. I think that BM Monroe Bisque looks great with BM Tuscan Red, but now dh is leaning in a different direction, lol!

After dh went to the BM store last night and picked up 4 more of their large red swatches and one gold, he is more sold on gold than red. I'm not too familiar with EK paint but it looks like ICI paints sells them locally. I am hoping to stick to Benjamin Moore, though since I get a discount there through work.

The color he brought home is BM Dorset Gold, which I thought at first might be too dark, but after seeing it in several different lighting conditions, I think might work. There is also a picture of it in someone's kitchen in the Yellow and Gold thread in the Gallery that looks nice. Any experience with that color, or another nice gold in the BM line?

Also, I forgot to mention the painted brick fireplace in the room. We are hoping to reface it with stacked stone (or tile if we can't afford that) eventually, but for now I think we may just need to paint it. It's not the most attractive fireplace, but does anyone have any suggestions for a color to paint it if we go with a gold? Maybe something brown??? I initially thought we'd just paint it the same as the trim color, but perhaps we can give it an accent color.

I was thinking BM Acadia White, or BM Cloud white for trim. Would those work with a gold?

Lastly, I need a coordinating color for the hallway and stairs that is lighter and more neutral. You can see the stairwell into the basement from the LR, which is painted RH Latte. I had been planning on painting the whole stairwell and basement BM Monroe Bisque before dh expressed his strong opinion, but I don't know if that will work in a room adjacent to the gold.

I have BM Wiminton Tan in my PR and I love it. Powell Buff HC35 is lighter and on the same paint strip and I think it would coordinate well in your hallway. I also have BM Cloud White throughout my home and love it.

We used SW Ivoire in our low light basement and love it. The adjoining kitchen is SW Bolero. We still have some tweaking to do with the lighting, but we're very happy with the colors.

I had almost decided on Dorset gold on a recommendation but then went with BM Aura Affinity color called Honeymoon.

sjt2900 - Ivoire looks really pretty in that room. I think the Bolero works well in your kitchen with the wood work in there! On the left side of your kitchen pic there is a hole that looks like it used to be a window. Does that lead to a crawlspace under an addition by any chance? We have the same thing in our family room since the kitchen was added on to the back of the house. How do you plan to plug the hole? We have to do something removable because that is the crawlspace access.

denali_2007 - I don't have a swatch of that here, but I will have to look at it! We picked up a few more large swatches today.

scoutfinch, Thank you I posted that picture just to show you the Cloud White. The two greens are BM Flowering Herbs the lighter one which is in my kitchen and BM Baby Turtle is the darker one which starts over the PR door.
