Help with paint colors for kitchen and family room.
I am in the midst of my kitchen and family room renovation. Cabinets are being installed next week. They are white (painted BM White Dove to match the headboard and trim in my other rooms) trying to decide on paint color for the kitchen and the connecting family room.
The hallway and dining room which flow into the kitchen are currently BM Edgecomb Gray. You can see in these pictures
Was planning on Having the painters touch up the White Dove and Edgecomb that was messed up in the renovation. The small halfwall you see in the above photo will have a cabinet covering it and countertop across it to make a peninsula. Countertops are Hanstone Italian waves. The kitchen will not have much painted wall at all except for the header in the above photo. Should I paint that Edgecomb as well or paint the hallway and Kitchen a different color?
the family room is open from the kitchen. I replaced all wood paneled walls and put new wood floors in the kitchen and family room. I am struggling with color. My original plan was to paint the room Revere Pewter (which looks gray in my basement). When I did a sample swatch it looks really brown.
colors on swatches are [L to R) BM Owl Gray, Stonington Gray and Balboa Mist. Revere Peter is on the bottom by the baseboard. Not sure how I feel about any. Owl Gray seems slightly green. stonington is pretty but maybe a little darker than I want? Balboa Mist seems beige.
Would love to hear any advice you have on colors. A friend suggested I just paint it all Edgecomb Gray, but then my entire first floor would be that color (except my bathroom and my sons bedroom). Was envisioning a soft, light warm gray that works with Edgecomb Gray but am not finding the prefect one yet. The room gets a good amount of light. I also am buying new furniture for the family room and was thinking a medium gray sofa and some accent seating.

this Barren Plain...little darker than Pale Oak. it may have the taupe tone that Edgecomb has
maybe this will help a bit,,
I;d prob repaint and get rid of the Edgecomb and do some other colors that I could compliment.
or go off of this list and do these colors. she actually did grey owl here w/edgecomb.
Try cutting gray owl by 50%. a lot of people have had success w/the lighter color.

Camouflage might be nice, any other recommendations for something that's classic and also can work with the slightly yellow cabinets and backsplash? Comments (8)colorfast... yes, my next step is to make up a color board. It's been terribly difficult to try and obtain a sample door from my cabinet maker. Though they are scheduled to be finished with the order by next week, I am going to try again and see if I can get something earlier. I did pick my cabinet white by taking color samples with me when I went in to see my granite. Hopefully, my sample tiles will arrive soon and I can get a clearer picture of everything. boxerpups... thank you for your ideas! They are beautiful. I wasn't a big fan of gray walls (one of my friends had suggested it), but then again, I never realized how much undertone can exist and change the effect of a color. I mean, only when I started comparing have I realized that there are blue-ish whites and pinkish whites, etc. I'll have to study those colors you suggested. They are lovely. melaska... I have that same living room saved in my Houzz ideabook and it's the reason I've fallen in love with Shaker Beige! I would love to have my entire 1st floor in that color, minus my kitchen and sunroom. I'm also happy to hear that someone else is considering it with sage green and white. I'd be super interested to see how your space turns out,too! linelle... the BS tiles in the 1st photo is Walker Zanger's Bamboo Mizu line. I had seen a sample in person and confirmed it with the designer. Unfortunately, it's been discontinued. The greens in it are similar to their Celedon color as well as Daltile's Pistachio. I'm hoping to find a tile with lots of variation in its glazing to get the same effect. Heath Ceramics has several colors that are close to both of the photos... since their tiles are all handmade, there can be a lot of variation in the glazing as well. Comments (0)My kitchen, nook, and family room are all pretty open to each other. A friend who I trust picked Comfort Grey for my breakfast nook kitchen and family room. Once I painted the nook and kitchen my husband and I both thought it would be too much in the family room. These rooms have northern windows except for the one western window in nook and 2 smaller windows in family room. I really like the Comfort Grey in the kitchen where there is no natural light cause it looks more green. What should I do? Should I paint the nook and family room one color and what color should I try? Also I have a taupe going up the stairway off the kitchen and family room..how do I transition paint there with 2 possibly 3 different paint colors? PS Please disregard all the kid stuff and clutter..its winter break here! Also my daughter and husband both do not like the paisley drapes..opinions on those?
