I love your room, it is just beautiful! I really had to LOOK at the pictures to come up with some suggestions b/c it is lovely the way it is. However, if you want to tweak it, you could add an area rug under the seating area. That would also help to minimize the size of the coffee table. On the bookshelves, I would add some books in groups of 3 to 5 on each shelf - standing up, stacked/laying down, some with an object on top of the stack, etc. Maybe the pic over the fp could be a couple of inches higher. Remove the photo from the mantle. Replace the candles on the mantle with red or burnt orange candles to add some color. You could pull a color from the painting for the candle colors. I can't really see the fish tank. It looks like you same some Lladro (sp?) or similar figures - is that right? That shelf looks a little busy, but other than that I think the accessories look nice. I can't tell what the small white objects are that border the vase on the top right shelf. They look too small for that top shelf.

I agree with cindy. First change the candle holders on the mantle with the ones on the bookcase. Make the set of three on the mantle. The shell is a beautiful piece. I would either put it by itself on one side of the mantle
or put it on the top shelf on the bookcase (alone). On the other side put something else that is large or use the cream colored vase but raise it higher (maybe with books). So both things are the "main attraction" on the shelves.
On the bottom shelves, put books to anchor the bookshelf.
In the middle shelves: on one side, put the figurines in two groupings, now you have them all spread out. On the other shelf maybe put a silver bowl or something similar.
Keep all your picture frames together.
The painting could be wider.
The mantle can also have the two "white" candles on one side and the shell on the other. Nothing else. Then put the three candles on the coffee table.

I think your main problem is that everything is spread out. Make little groups even if you keep all the same things and you'll be much happier.

I think all you're missing is a pop of color. Right now, your whole room is reading as different versions of brown, which is a great base, you just need a little bit of an accent color going on in there.. you could do the orange of your candles, or red, or even turquoise blue or cobalt. Get a pretty area rug with some colors you like, then pick one and get some pillows that will pop on your couch, the ones you have now blend in too much. Other than that, it's a gorgeous room with lots of architectural interest, I'm jealous :).

cindyloowoo - I have put down an area rug that I had in my attic & it looks much better - great idea. We got two puppies last year and I took all the rugs up then and had just forgotten about having them.

mlraff- you are so right about everything being spread out. I love your idea of putting the books on bottom to anchor the shelves. Do you recommend that I put something in the Ivory vase when I move it? If so, any ideas?

ronniroo - I am going to Hobby Lobby as soon as I get off work- new pillows and candles. I love orange and cobalt blue.

Just wondering - do you think I should move the shelves so they are different heights from the one next to them? What do you think if I got a really large mirror to go over mantle? I saw one in soonermagic's post that was over her buffet with a large silver frame and thought it was gorgeous. I would love to find a large sailboat picture but haven't had any luck.

I love all your ideas and I welcome more. You guys are the best!

You could put some greenery in the vase but it's just going to be a dust collector. I see a nice big colorful vase from Hobby Lobby or a large sailboat would be nice also. You can use the white vase next to the books. The round mirror would look great!
I also think the orange and blue combo would look great.

Also, on the table on the wall behind the couch, you need something larger on the right side or make a grouping of your photos there. Then get a larger(fatter) lamp-shorter also (and lower the painting a couple of inches).

Love your leather couch--would add some fun summer pillows.
Think the painting over the fireplace is too small (not wide enough) for the space..know some people say no-no to a mirror above a fireplace but that could be interesting and another texture/feel for your room..
