Bumpkins son with the final update on my dad...

My mother wanted me to post on here, as she isnt able, but loves you all so dearly.

Tonight my dad went home. Around 9:30 tonight he took his final stand, and collapsed in the shower. He fought an insanely tough fight that would make a lot of people fold. He is now at peace, free from all suffering in the arms of God.

I thank the many of you that prayed and offered support for my mother and the family during their battle. She now faces another battle, and I ask you again for prayers and support as she makes this transition.

My eldest DD is working with the District Attorney's office and had a recent encounter in court with the judge who'd sentenced my son. Apparently judge has got a reputation as being difficult and tends to be more lenient toward women than men. She's kicked people out of her courtroom because she didn't feel they were properly attired (even victims assistant advocates!) or behaving the way she felt they should. DD said that some of the victims her office represents have filed official complaints against this judge. So, we figured that my son had 2 strikes against him right up front...he went to court that day wearing skinny jeans (as he has done for years), sneakers and a clean T-shirt with an overshirt. Said judge does not like that look apparently. Had he worn a suit & tie I'm sure she wouldn't have been so harsh. Well, we're still going to work on that appeal and use that judges complaints in the request for expungement.

I didn't send a card, Andy, but please offer your Dad best wishes on his birthday from this old guy in Canada. He has had a rough time of it, as have you all, I'm sure. My husband's primary care physician has had a long time interest is holistic and nutritional medicine and he incorporates that into his Internal Medical Practice. After my husband's diagnosis, he spent countless hours educating us about how a change in diet along with other more natural remedies can work in tandem with modern medicine (to optimize the best results possible). In other words, we follow the directives of our oncologist exactly as prescribed, but use diet and holistic medicine to help control some of the side effects of the treatments like rebuilding the immune system, stomach problems, energy levels and so on. And it works! When my husband started seeing him, the doctor put him on a diet that focus's on the G-Bomb foods, restricted sugars and asked him to avoid as much animal protein as possible as it's very hard on the kidneys. He also asked him to eat as much organic food as possible (even when he eats meat) to avoid the pesticides, antibiotics and other contaminants. Fish is the preferred protein if meat is consumed but only non farmed ocean fish like Alaskan Salmon. He's also supposed to (but doesn't always) avoid flour and other processed foods. Russian black bread is my husband's weakness so that's a tough one. LOL I would say that 85% of everything we do food wise now is home made from natural and organic foods and only 5% of what he eats is an animal based product. Meat he can live without but other than switching to Organic, milk was also something where he couldn't compromise. There is famous doctor who's work our doctor was familiar with before he became popular. Even though I'm not into the hype of the popular doctor, parts of his program or his marketing stradegy, his website still has lots of articles and information about how nutrition and diet affects the body. And how it can help to keep someone from getting sick. You may have heard of him too, Dr. Joel Furhman. The problem I think is that people perceive that good diet will "cure" cancer, but that's not the case. And people think cure the cancer and it's over, but that's not the case either. Because their immune system is wiped out, many people with cancer become ill, even gravely ill with other ailments after the cancer is gone. The diet helps the body to rebuild the immune system and decrease the chance of secondary disease. From July 2012 to Mid 2013 my husband was on the strong chemo treatments and finally went into remission in June 2013. However, to keep the myeloma from returning, he was put on a mild but continuous chemo regiment for life. He started the diet shortly after starting chemo in 2012 and has not been sick with as much as a cold since 2013. If he slacks from the diet for any length of time, he says he can feel his energy drop and system weaken. G-Bombs are only part of the equation as there are lots of other foods that are are important too, Kale for example which is growing in popularity, broccoli and avacados to name a few. There's a ton of information on Dr. Fuhrman's site. Thank you for your and your Mom's thoughtfulness in sending the heartfelt message of your Dad's passing from this world to the next, Andy.

We send good thoughts and prayers for you and your Mom and the others in your family, plus others who cared deeply for your Dad, at this difficult time.

May your hours together during the coming days, when you remember your father with gratitude and praise, build an even deeper feeling of love and trust among you.

If there may have been some differences between some family emmbers, I hope that, rather than being exacerbated by the raw emotions of this time, that they may find healing.

When we honour and respect someone who held an important place in our lives, one of the greatest tributes that we can offer is to choose to live various aspects of our lives in a similar fashion.

Perhaps interpreted in different ways, relating to changes in the modern world ... I had never travelled over 30 miles from home until I was 17, just after World War II, when tires and gas were rationed. My farmer Dad, having bronchitis and asthma problems, moved about 1,600 miles from this area to farm on the Prairies, where he enjoyed 40 years of healthy living. While I went to University and seminary, and travelled by ship for 18 days out of sight of land, travelling to Korea to help clean up the mess after the Korean War, including helping some of hundreds of thousands of refugees get their lives back in some semblance of order. When I told Dad that I was considering such, and he said that it seemed so far away, I referred Dad to his credo that when our neighbour was having trouble, we went to help, which partly motivated me.

I have often heard family members say, at a gathering when someone had passed away, that it seemed as though the only time that the family got together was when someone married, or died.

On Saturday I attended the 110th reunion of my father's family, with about 100 present and within a couple of weeks travel to Saskatchewan where my retired farmer brother will host a reunion of upward of 100 of Mom's family on what was Dad's farm.

And I'm hoping to visit a few KT members along the route through MI, WI, MN and ND.

Again, the hearts of many here at the KT, as you have seen above, go out to all of you in your family at this time, while you remember your Dad's life with thankfulness, and mourn your loss, together. Many here think of your mother with affection.

Andy, please know that you, your mom and the rest of your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. I lost my dear father to cancer 6 years ago, so I know what pain you're feeling. And it was hard to watch my mother in her grief, so I'm so glad your mom has you.

I hope that time will lessen your pain and leave you with wonderful memories.
